I'm trying to make a few lists of software packages that can't be missed on (at the moment, only) a Windows system.
This is pretty much the software I use like at least once a week.
Eventually I'm going to make a bunch of scripts which fetch the newest versions of these. I simply hate it to have to browse the web for everything when I'm busy getting a new installation running.
- Windows software
- Packet logging/sniffing
- Wireshark (former Ethereal)
- Media players
- Winamp
- QuickTime Player
- Media Player Classic
- Archive encryption/compression
- PDF Creation/editing
- FTP Client
- Secure communication
- IM client
- Code editors
- TextPad
- Microsoft Visual Studio
- CD/DVD Burning
- Security testing
- Netcat
- Acunetix
- THC Hydra
- NMap security scanner
- Tools packages
- Image manipulation
- IrfanView
- The GIMP
- ImageMagick
- Adobe Photoshop
I'd like to extend this list, so... post whatever software you recommend!
