Hey, I've got a network of zones going, and I'm having a problem.
When I start my zones up, they say that they connect to the biller, and the biller recognizes them. But when I go to click on Zones, and Download, they don't appear.
If I click on Add Custom, and insert the correct information, I am able to join the zone.
Everything's been checked over, and over, and over.
What's going on? |

Can others find your zones in the list? If not then your most likely have a bad setting somewhere or perhaps a firewall/router blocking it. |

No, others can not find it in their zone list.
I've looked all over Purge, no luck, so I made this.
But I've change the ports, triple checked all the settings, and made sure that they are correct. It's weird. _________________ SSE Network Administrator |

I'm having the exact same problem -- I have a network of zones that are up and running fine, other people can connect and they show up green once they've been added, but they are not in the download list and people have to add the zones manually. Actually, one of my four zones is in the download list, even though all of the zones are properly connected, and using modified copies of the same server.ini, and pretty much all are set up exactly the same way. Stranger yet, it was a different zone showing up a few hours ago than the one that is right now, but still just one at a time. Any ideas?
.. Sorry to hijack the thread, but it's the same issue so I thought I'd add rather than start a new one. _________________

Directory:NamePassword needs to be the same in all zones with the same prefix. _________________ This help is informational only. No representation is made or warranty given as to its content. How (I think) it works: When a zone connects, the directory server will look at the prefix and check to see whether that prefix is registered yet. If it is, it checks the NamePassword to see if it has the right password for the prefix, and then will start sending the zone to clients if it does. If the prefix is not registered, it will register the prefix with the supplied NamePassword. I hope that was clear enough.
What I'm not sure about is why your zones aren't showing up now. Your own IP shouldn't be in there. The list I use is "IP=sscentral.ds98.com,sscentral.subspace.inet.fi,sscentral.subspacehq.com", where subspace.inet.fi is the same as sscuservers.net so you're fine there. I would check to see if the directory server your client is using is on the list for the server. If it already is, then try just shutting off your zones for a bit (allowing the directory to flush or something) and then putting them all back in a while. It's possible there's some kind of timeout and you tried to reconnect your zones while the old NamePassword was still active.
Wow, that was long. I hope it helped. |

Thanks, CF, that was helpful.
Is there any benefit to have the directory server list longer? Either in the client or in your server? Is there one actual list housed somewhere, or does each server maintain a duplicate list, or a list of all the zones that connected to it? So if my server only has one directory IP listed, and someone's client doesn't have that in their list, they won't see my zone? Still not perfectly clear on how it all works.
My subspace client has (currently) just subspace.sscuservers.net listed for downloads -- and half the time it doesn't work. If I add more to the list, it'll get stuck on any one of the servers in the list not working. Someone told me that if I click around the zones in my list it will sometimes start working -- and sometimes it does! Very odd .. anyone know why that is? |

Each directory server is a separate entity that stores its own directory list. Thus, for a client getting the list from a directory server, that directory server's address must be in your server's Directory:IP for the client to get your server's entry.
I'm pretty sure that subgame will not get stuck if one of the Directory:IP entries fails. I've seen people with a whole lot of junk in there whose zones worked fine. |

At the time of posting:
62.65.37.101 is the same as sscentral.sscuservers.net
69.56.172.170 works, but I don't know what it is.
216.33.98.254,ssdl.subspacedownloads.com don't work. |

One by one, my zones slowly showed up in the dl list. Finally, they're all online. Thanks much |
