I am trying to set up a server (on a lan first) so all standalone..
I made it work fine. any user (on the lan) can access it.
The server IP is set to my IP address and localhost is set for billing...
I have 2 problems :
1 ) this comp is on a lan with DHCP (and I have to stick with that) so anytime
I come on this LAN (new connection or reboot..) my IP address is different.
Is there a way to have the settings of my server be customized so that I do not need
to change the server IP in server.ini and favorite.lst?
2 ) I am still testing (that's why I do all on the same comp). All is fine connected :
billing server connected, players play...
whatever player comes in, it's ok, he can play BUT nothing (name, score, etc) is recorded
in the user/score/squad databases ..
How do I make things taken into account?
(I run SCOREMAN.exe, all is empty ; when I try to open , says user.dat, it says 'file empty'...)
Ty for ur help |

1) Bit different for each of the windows, but it pretty much is this. Go to control panel, and get into the networking properties/options/whatever. In there, find the TCP/IP protocol, and get the properties of that. Instead of obtaining your ip automatically, set a specific IP that is around yours. So say it starts the ips at 192.168.1.100, and there is 20 machines, set your ip to 192.168.1.130 or something like that, so you won't conflict later on. If your running your own router, you can set the Client Lease Time for the DHCP server to some large value. Mine for my Linksys router is set to 30 days. So as long as a computer restarts or is turned back on within 30 days, it will keep the same IP value for it.
2) When shutting down your zone, do the zone first by either an ingame *shutdown, or with the window up, hit Shift+F12. Once it closes (it will close it itself with this method), do the same Shift+F12 idea with the subbill window. Don't close the windows via the X. |

1 ) ok, I understand then that I cannot have dynamic IPs (I am mobile and I keep changing locations, hence LANs, so my IPs are alawys changing...
2 ) thx.. it works , I closed the servers with Ctrl X... |

I think there is something you can put in the description of the zone that will perform a DNS lookup if the zone is down. something like ss://my.dns.name.here, but im not sure the exact syntax. Plus, that will only work if your DHCP server is coupled to a DNS server (lots of fun ). _________________ Hyperspace Owner
