This isn't actually coding, it's trash talk.
Be more specific. Are you sure you don't want to use mod_rewrite instead?
Also, how is anyone supposed to help you if all you say is "looked, doesnt help."?
Redirecting will just send the browser to another URL, but mod_rewrite will take the client's URL but change it according your rewrite rules and interpret the changed URL. |

I have helped you enough already. Unfortunately you seem to be to lazy to try to learn and find things out for yourself so I stopped helping you.
The examples from my own project I have given you should be sufficient to use for your websites ... if Dreamhost allows the "ServerAlias" directive in a .htaccess file (doubt it).
For anyone else; Cheese basically wants http://name.subdomain.domain.com to work on http://subdomain.domain.com/name (and other way around). |

It's not a form of coding, would you call configuring Subgame "coding" too? No. This way you're just configuring your webserver.
I didn't ask you if Mav is helping you.
And it seems I'm replying right after Mav but k.

I didn't want to say it, but well, I agree. |

So what you're implying is
- you're ignorant; and
- you won't read what we say
?
Your reply doesn't make sense.

So... we should all just ignore your questions and move on because you don't understand anything said to you? Nice. |

You're wrong, Cheese. You've alienated everyone who might have helped you. I suggest you shut up and move on. Either find a way to live without help or move to a location none of us frequent, because there's really no way we're going to help you after this. _________________ Hyperspace Owner

Congratulations, you just became the new target here at the Server Help forums. It has been a while since a Spyed like user gifted us with his presence.
If you want assistance, don't insult those that are trying to help you. |

Well, he obviously is rejecting help on purpose, and well he probably doesn't even know why.
I suggest we stop feeding my fellow troll (Cheese) and stop posting in this thread. |

well, as i see it...
you nerds havnt helped at all.
one nerd gave a link to a search engine.
one nerd seemed like he knew something about it.
some newb gave a related and unhelpful comment.
and a bunch of other nerds didnt help at all and decided to flame.
this is server HELP, not nerd hangout. |

Actually, I told you to be more specific. You failed.
Some people here actually do run Apache and are potential help, you're just too ignorant to be helped.
Besides, yes, it's Server Help, for a game, not for your "Hi I fail at everything websites/servers". |

Maybe they are using a different deffinition of "help" than you.
Example:
Them: "We'll teach you the method so you can do it yourself whenever you want."
You: "Waaah sum1 do tihz 4 meh. D:" |

- For the basic question he asked, that Google link results in a lot more detail than any small post can. As a possible response to someone who has little clue, as suggested by him stating "i dont speak apache", those first three links in Google result in both simple and complex explinations and examples of how to do what he asked.
If they didn't, a comment such as "I tried the following, which did not work" with the actual htaccess he tried will result in people correcting the mistake he made. Instead, he responded with a didn't-work comment, which helps no one.
- This person noticed the type of people asking the question, and noticed immediately that the person needing help is one of those types of people who rarely volunteer information that is important. This is usually the way I go about it, asking lots of questions to try and get the person to better explain his problem, and preemptively try and ask the most common type of problem that I believe they could be having with resources to learn more.
- The next new person to respond, which I guess would be the 'newb' you are talking about, is Dr Brain, someone who is respected in his knowledge of Subspace and is very helpful, as can be seen by looking at his post history. If this isn't the person you are talking about with 'some newb', I suggest trying to better clarify your statements before posting.
- Others flaming him as this point is acceptable. Cheese had at this time shown no ability to explain his problem, other than it "doesn't work". His choice of words shows that his is unknowledgeable in this area, yet is trying to push the knowledge he does having as being valid.
- This is Subspace/Continuum Server Help. We are here on a volenteer based to help spread knowledge about running Subspace zones, be it using the software, to using other tools to better assist zones. Apache is a very large piece of software that is not directly related to running a zone for a space game. There are many other sources of information, many forums specialized for this piece of software, and many websites to explain and document every little configurable option of Apache.
This place happens to not be one of those locations. Some of us have used Apache and can assist, but none of us hint at our knowledge of Apache. This is no different than going into a Physics lab and asking questions about making rope. Sure, someone in there may be able to help you, but it isn't the first resource you'd expect someone to go to.
In summary, I do not disapprove of the way people responded to Cheese in this thread. He showed little care in explaining his problem, beyond his initial statement.
Once Cheese stated that those helping him might have well been speaking a different language, that opens him up to those that give their free time to try and assist people. There is nothing binding them to give their time and knowledge to others for no reward.
A little kindness goes a long way. But if you don't treat others with respect, don't expect any in return. |
