Does anyone have any systems for solving their Rubik's cube puzzle quickly?

I'd like to make my own algorithms for mine, but I want to master some other techniques first.

Mine's not the fastest method, but I can usually solve 'em in about 5-6 mins. I think my record is only 3 mins.

I was wondering.. does solving the Rubik's cube make anyone smarter in any way?

I know that it has to sharpen skills dealing with logic.. Does that make you a smarter person?

Smart things are only things you can't do but would like to.

I remember an introductory lecture on AI, they were trying to define what AI meant and wasted the whole slot trying to define intelligence. The rest of the lectures were of a similar quality...

Brain, did you figure out the method yourself or look it up? My school went through a rubik's phase about a month ago, and I was the only one that refused to look up the solution, but I never figured it out.

Rubiks cubes are easy. Just take the stickers off and match up all the colors. On a hot day, it may even be faster than our pseudo-humans record of 42 seconds.
