Assuming that we are dealing with spambots here and not truely lifeless trolls who get paid to play it like a shill...

Rip the visual authentification thingy routine for when you sign a new account and attach it to guests posting new topics and replys.

I often wonder if some sites actually use the code you enter, or it might be something lame, like each code always contains a D or a F (everything else random), so as long as you type D or F anywhere in the answer it lets you pass.
