Summary:
Network drives are not working. Cannot disconnect or map any new drives.

-----

A while back when I first bought my PSP, I hooked it up to my computer so I could transfer files or do whatever. When attached, windows assigned it to drive M (for functioning as a memory stick reader). Everything worked fine and all was well. When I was done, I disconnected the PSP and drive M dissapeared.

A little while later, I needed to read a DVD. This machine doesnt have a DVD-Rom, so Ive always had to use the DVD rom on my server. Rather than transfer the files via remote desktop, I felt like networking the drives. Using the default settings, I mapped two DVD roms, at drive M and N respectively. Again, everything worked fine and all was well.

Fast foward to today.
With the release of the PSP 2.0 firmware, I busted out the USB cable and hooked up the PSP. This time, all was not well. For reasons unknown, windows decided to store the last known drive letter used by the PSPs memory stick reader and "attempted" to assign it to drive M, which is currently in use by one of my network DVD roms. I put attempted in quotes, because it didnt ask or check, it forcefully assigned the drive letter. Needless to say, My shit is all kinds of fucked up now.

I unplugged the PSP and attempted to disconnect the network drives, but Windows seemed to not care. After having my own computer ignore me a few times, I attempted to restart, with no avail. As it sits right now, I was able to re-assign the PSP to use a new drive letter, and that works fine. However, all network drive functionality is shot. I cant add new network drives, since the 'map network drive' menu option no longer works, and I cant disconnect any because windows thinks I have none.

Soooooooo...
Has anyone else run into a similar situation or have any idea how to fix this? Ive tried:
-Google: Lots of hits, all basic 'map network drive' guides or cross platform guides.
-Resarting: Did nothing
-Changing workgroups: A long shot, but im out of ideas and very pissed off.

Any suggestions/input would be appreciated, unless your name is Gravitron, in which case you can go straight to hell my friend.

Thanks.

You should try to delete the network drives (in the command prompt) using "net use /DELETE X:", substitute the X with the drive letter you wish to remove.

To add another network drive you can use (again in the command prompt) "net use X: \\192.168.0.10" where X is the drive letter, and where this IP can be a hostname too (of course).

Maybe this helps anything. icon_sad.gif
Sorry for not reading everything in your post with not enough attention, it's too late for that, so maybe my attempt to help is flaw'd. sa_tongue.gif

Awesome... that lets me manage network devices, and actually works. It seems only the shell menu option got fucked somehow.

Now I have to fight with the username part, because it doesnt feel like giving me access to the drives. Fuckin Windows.

Hmm, Quan Chi2 posted like 10 seconds before I did, I was even thinking "I should quickly post this before some idiot like Quan Chi2 posts anything stupid", but obviously I was too late. sa_tongue.gif

Good to hear that actually does anything.

Some of my friends actually run Windows XP Home edition, and whenever I'm in LAN with those computers I have problems accessing their shares from my system.
I don't know what's up with that, I'll try looking for some answers whenever I feel like. But... that's probably not the problem.
While you use the "net use" command, it should prompt you for the username and password, I think.
What's doing it wrong, exactly?

Thanks for the waste of screen space you two...

Solo:
It does exactly that: asks me for a user/password, but no matter what I type in it says 'access denied'. Probably something stupid Im forgetting to check.

Are you sure the "server side" was setup correctly? sa_tongue.gif

I don't know, this is like when people ask you for something at school, then they're disappointed because you can't help them.
Seeing the problem with your own eyes actually helps. sa_tongue.gif

I'm tempted to ignore this topic... icon_confused.gif

Solo, its entirely possible I biffed something server side (though, since I had it mapped correctly before this and it was working fine, Id like to think that its _still_ correct).

I can access the other computer via remote desktop or network neighborhood fine, it just wont let me map anything anymore.

After the very retarded posts from grav (who seems more and more like a furry with every post), if I wasnt the one asking for help, Id ignore this topic too.

Well, we figured out the problem -- was a mess of random/system permissions applied to shared resources whos names ended with a $. Soon as that changed, it worked like a charm.

Suse:
I have my gripes with windows and its seemingly retarded bugs, but it still works great for 90% of what I do (and what most of you guys do too, whether you want to believe it or not =P). Besides, I dont feel like busting out a lego OS to do what Windows can do with 3 clicks.

[Just so this doesnt turn into a linux vs windows argument: I see the advantages of both, I simply dont feel like dealing with the extra work that comes with setting up a *nix server.]
