Ok I bought a 1 gig chip of what was supposed to be pc 2100.. but it wouldn't come up in the system as 1024 megs just 512 megs. I peeled a sticker off it and it says under it that it is a pc 2700 1 gig chip. Now I dont know everything about computer but even if it is supposed to run at 333mhz instead of 266mhz would it still show up as 1 gig but run at the 266mhz speed? The chip was in a 333mhz system and it would run at 1 gig but only ran at 266mhz instead of the 333 mhz... It just took the cpu from a athlon 2500 down to a athlon 1900. |

Could be a couple of reasons.
Read your motherboard manual and see what kind of RAM it can handle. _________________ SSE Network Administrator |

Hmm.. Sounds like it should work.
What's the max RAM your motherboard can handle? |

Seems like you've got the wrong type of RAM in your computer. What did you have in there before? |

I did have pc2100 256 meg ddr. The chip I just bought was supposed to be a 1 gig pc 2100 ddr chip. But under the pc 2100 sticker it says its a pc 2700 chip. I can run the 256 chip and 1 gig chip together but it shows up as 768 megs. The 1 gig chip alone shows up as 512 megs. The ram is compatible with my computer... I tried it in a computer with a athlon 2500 cpu that runs at 333 mhz fsb but that computer would only run at the speed of a 1900 xp instead of the 2500 xp.
Edit: Could this be a reverse roll taking affect? Instead of changeing my cpu speed to be higher its just changeing the ram to be lower...? |

There's a couple of reasons. Your motherboard says it should be unbuffereed, and you might have a bufferend stick. If it's used, it might be 512, even though you got it and thought it was 1 gig. Also, it could have a damaged memory bank, so it's not getting the total memory. |

I know its a 1 gig chip becuase it registered fine in a customers computer with a slightly upgraded motherboard.. only difference between mine and his is that his has 8x agp and mines only 4x. There's a slight chance that the chip could of became damaged in the 4 hours it sat in the car... but it was as night so it was not too hot nor cold and it was in the anti static bag which was in a bubble wrapped mailing envelope. There was no static disscharge when I removed it from the other computer or anything like that either. I dont think its buffered... |

Hmm.. Then I don't know what to tell you. Like I said, it might be buffered, and it might have a bad memory bank |

Yeah, that might work. Let me know if it works, when you get it all upgraded. |
