Guild Wars
I graduated high school recently, looking forward to a nice, long relaxing summer before starting courses, and got struck by a bit of a problem, boredom. So I gathered up my tips from work and headed to the entertainment store, determined to come home with something to keep me busy. Well I got there are realised those bastards at the cheese factory had stiffed me and I couldnt afford anything worth a damn. So I went home and did a bit or reasearch and happened upon the game Guild Wars by NCSoft. I don't know what it was, maybe too many acid trips, maybe the thoughts of how much fun I'd gotten out of Jade Empire, but after my next shift I went straight back and bought it.
I stuck this into the ol' machine when I got home and was initially apprehensive to learn that yes, it was a massively multiplayer game, with, yes, the characteristics of an RPG. Now I have had a run-in with Diablo II, intrigued at first, then addicted, then turning away(and yes back to Continuum) frustrated, and deleting it forever. This game, however seemed to be surpassing in every aspect. Even from the install the software seemed simple enough, plain yet nicely sharp graphics.
After the install I created my first character. There are 6 professions, Warrior, Ranger, Necromancer, Mesmer, Monk, and Elementalist. A player may pick a Primary profession, and also a Secondary profession a short time into the game. I went for a Ranger/Monk combo, something faily self-sustaining and also even more important, cool looking.
Now, 3 days into the game, im utterly hooked. How can I ever play Continuum again with games like this around? Ive gotten to be level 12 with many different skills and some nice items.
Here's a personal scale of 1-10 for some aspects.
Graphics
Simply stunning, I've never played a game before where after a long fight or stressful trek, I can look out over the countryside and feel relaxed. Not only that but all the characters, items, etc. look nice, I mean this shit is bombin man.
I give it a 9
Story
While there is a quite engrossing tale, with many side quests and characters with nice cinematics, the storyline does fail in its ability to tie in with the gameplay. I find myself skipping most scenes because 1. I want to play more, or 2. It's just lame. Some really stupid characters that i would jsut love to kill.
I give it a 4
Entertainment
This is where Guild Wars really shines. Well, so far anyways. For these first 3 days I've been playing it, its been on and had my attention for probably 20+ hours. I simply cannot pull myself away from it. The eye candy graphics, the need to gain more items, skills, and levels, the terrific community where one can build Guilds and compete for fame. Hell, I'm even quitting SysOp in Halo because of this game.
I give it a 10
That leaves us here, the cumulative rating of Guild wars. Well SeƱor, I give it a 9.5.
And now the part you've all been waiting for!
Ahh, would ya look at that view?
Me and a bunch of other wankers. Yes, I'm breakdancing.
My pet and I murderizin' some... things.
All in all I'm loving this game, and I recommend it to each and every one of you. Yes, I'm quitting Continuum for it. No, I dont know if I'll get bored of this in a week and uninstall it, but what's anything without point of view, eh? |

Fight easy monsters.
Level.
Buy new stuff.
Fighter tougher monsters.
Level
Buy new stuff.
Repeat until you get bored.
Time to boredom is inversely proportional to intelligence. _________________ 4,691 irradiated haggis! |

My roommate is hooked on this one too. I've played enough MMPORPGs to where I can't really get hooked by as ekted puts it :

Although this is all I've seen my roomate do so far (he's level 11 out of 20), what will make this game last is the pvp. Again, I haven't seen him do it, but I think if the pvp is interesting enough than it may turn out to be a good game yet. _________________ SubSpace Discretion: A Third Generation SubSpace Client |

Stfu , anyways, this game is still being updated, and they apparently plan to add more levels for characters as well as maps and things. Also, I've played a little PvP and its quite fun, and I'm in a Guild thats doing a few fights. |

SubSpace, supposedly had a story, but it was never told.
All we have, is somewhat of precedance, the story Rod wrote.
Mr. Ekted, the level grind portion, as I understood it from Jerry, is just the small layer you see when you begin the game, unaware of the entire world beyond, once past that, the game expands to a whole new plane. |

That may be true, but all the word-of-mouth I hear is about character skills, levels, equipment, and killing. So it seems the "story" takes second seat in the players' minds. |

Until you can run around and set people on fire or steal their items/money, all MMORPGs are equally retarded. |
