It's not a server question, but perhaps you guys can help me anyway.
I got DSL about 2 weeks ago, and it pinged the zone I play in at a steady 120 ms. A week later, it goes up to a stable 160 ms without a particular reason.
I tried tracing some of the zones, and all the ip's traced were pinged pretty quickly and they all appeared within a second or two.
However, when I attempted pinging the zone I play in, it paused on IP # 12 and IP # 13, where it procrastinated for a few seconds and then skipped both, one at a time, leaving only '...' instead of the ip string.
I noticed there were only two zones which pinged higher than 120 ms, so I traced the other zone and the same thing happened.
The last IP for both zones that actually gets detected, # 11, is 205.171.4.170
I figure maybe there are some temporary technical difficulties in that area which cause the issue? Or perhaps someone has a better explanation for it? |

160ms is a fine ping. It's just differences in network usage, don't worry about it.
The reasons some IPs are pausing on tracert is that those IPs don't have an associated domain name. That's fine too. _________________ This help is informational only. But how can it be reverted back to 120? 160 is a huge difference between 120 for me, and it's only 10 ms less than my previous 56k 170 ms which would almost make it completely pointless for me to even have DSL in the first place.
Is there a way for it to go back to 120? |

No there's not (without getting some professional internet package like T1), and it's not a huge difference. |

Rent your own server that has a better ping and get the zone(s) to move to it. |
