I am running a server on a Win2k machine with the following specs:

AMD Athlon @ 1.4 GHz
479MB DDR-SDRAM

At 5 players the server brought my comp down to its knees (100% CPU usage) between CSRSS.EXE, Subbill.exe, and Subgame2.exe.

This seems a little ridiculous to me and I am wondering if there is something that can be done about this. I should be able to host 5 players for a game like this, it doesn't strike me as a program that should require these kinds of resources.

I tried to mess around with Subbill.exe after reading some things in the forum, but after Subbill.exe toned down, Subgame2.exe shot up to 70% while it wrestled with CSRSS.EXE.

Any help would be useful, thank you.

In server.ini under [Sleep] change SleepTime=0 to something like 5 or 10
That may fix the problem

Also catid's billing server seems to use less cpu that subbill. You can try that out. http://catid.ssihosting.com its called subbill2

That's very odd. Is your zone super or anything?

It's a straight unzip of the latest server, pure defaults except for the settings that I must alter (passwords, etc).

I have no idea what's up. icon_sad.gif

As soon as the server starts, Subgame2.exe and CSRSS.EXE sky rocket and grind the comp at 100% CPU usage.

I am not running anything else.

@ 50% Packetloss:

Which do you recomment? 5 or 10? tongue.gif

And I will give catid's billing a shot. Thanks.

Are you sure it's subgame that's using the resources? Subbill.exe has a problem with CPU usage, but I've never seen subgame use more than 5% of my 1.2gHz CPU.

As it sits now, System Idle is at 99.

Once Subbill and Subgame2 start up, Subbill and CSRSS climb to 50, 60, 70 and seesaw with eachother while Subgame2 stays at around 20-30.

If I set that priority option in Subbill.ini to 1, it stays at 0 and Subgame2 flies up to 70 and seesaws with CSRSS

Jeff, I have something similar to this on my 266 MHz comp. It ran everything nicely, until 1 day I was d/ling hacking utilities and I think I accidentaly gave myslef a virus and now I can't unzip anything or go in to any games, it puts the CPU down to the grinding stone at 100% in less than 1 second. Perhaps you got a virus? Go to http://www.mcafee.com/ and get a free computer virus scan.

Ran a virus scan with the latest definitions using Norton Antivirus 2003.

Nothing was picked up.

This is like a fresh install of 2k too. Like only just over a week old.

I had this issue w/ XP, change the sleep time, and i cant remember but i know in XP you can change the priority, which helped also; but I do remember the sleep setting worked best..

Then it's subbill that's causing the problem, which is pretty normal. Use SSB2 as 50% suggested.

I am not using WinXP, I am using Win2k.

Which OS are you guys using that it runs so well? I would think 2k would be the only reasonable option.

Using matid's subbill 2 seems to have little impact.
CSRSS.EXE is operating at around 33 %
Subgame2.exe is hovering around 65-75 %

And what do people recomment I chance the sleep time to?

Ok, you're contradicting yourself majorly here.

Which one am I supposed to believe? I'm assuming subbill is using most of the resources (it's the normal one). And I, personally, have never seen SSB2 use more than 2% of my CPU.
If subgame's running above 10%, there's probably something wrong with your settings.

You should believe both, because both is what happens depending on whether I have the LowPriority setting on or not.

If it's off, subbill sky rockets the CPU usage.

If it's on, subbill drops to zero, and subgame2 takes over and seesaws with csrss.

Yes I imagine it could be my settings, but it's like a straight unzip of the default server, which only the changes made in the guide on the site.

You really should do a search before you ask. I posted about this earlier:

http://forums.minegoboom.com/viewtopic.php?t=2317

And since I now know about the attachment feature on this board, and some people are too lazy/lost to use a hex editor, the patched subbill is in the attached zip.

Don't use the patched subbill. No offence numpf, but SSB2 is just so much better than the server.zip biller.

Whatever, I won't run any catid SW I've seen so far. For those of us who just want the biller for local testing, this is better.

Ok, what about whether or not people are using onboard video cards?

Ouch, are you running both together or are you just unsure of what they are? Motherboards with combination ram have been known to blow SD and DDR sticks when used together and as a result most of the boards were recalled.

If you'd read the other thread you'd know that what I posted is different from that distributed in server.zip by one, and only one, byte, and I told you exactly where it is. If memory serves there's also a cmd prompt command that compares files and tells you which bytes are diff so you can verify.

My loss is exactly what it isn't cyan, you are a retard. I dont need a better (or rather, more fully-featured) biller, I need something that works and isn't compiled from code with a 5000 line function in a .h
