Sometimes I get erros like these:
A post is counted as new (orange) when I'm the poster.
A topic doesn't show new posts when there are.
Edit: Fixed for Akai.

No biggie, but is there an easy reason this is happening?

I know, I know... I've been trying to find out why, and couldn't figure it out. So I've been working a bit on upgrading the board to the newest version, which doesn't seem to have that problem.

Or I might use another board that would require less hacks to get the features I like, such as global announcements, attachments, etc.

I've had good luck with Invision. I like the fact that it comes with most of the essential stuff, unlike phpbb.
