After reading forums and noticing the negatives about further development of this game, Im just wondering if SS/Continuum is at a dead end. There are so many things that could be implemented into this game but yet the "development team" seems to have no motivation! The people that play this game and develop on other aspects of the game should demand more. As it seems, this is just a hobby for the one and only developer but yet thousands of people take this game very seriously. Just wondering why the code to this game hasent been "obtained" and motivated people start making posative upgrades instead of general bug fixes. Or..why other poeple arent taken on to the deveopment team to help..is this guy on a power trip?

Just wondering if this game is dead..Do you ever wonder? icon_rolleyes.gif

PriitK ain't on a power trip, he just doesn't trust anybody else with the code (cheating, stuff like that). I just wish he didn't get distracted [Edit: not lazy] icon_sad.gif.

This stuff has been discussed a lot on SSForum, check there for 'updates'.

mmm, for whatever reason, PriitK doesn't share the code with anyone (except I think a TINY bit with Mr. Ekted who handles the UI)

as for nobody else doing the work instead...well...

think about it - there's already this client that honestly works more than well enough and while updates slow, they DO happen

to make a new client a person would be taking a big risk (of wasting time)

..PriitK might become more active
..any new client might not be liked as much
..you'd have to convince thousands of people to switch from a client they know works

I'm currently taking that risk Akai. Along with a few other devs.

mmm, I've seen the threads icon_smile.gif

good luck

I guess all you really have to do is convince zone/server owners to like it and then it'll trickle down

I just want to say that yes, SS is a dead game. A couple of years ago, VIE shut down its servers, and SS pretty much died at that moment. Ever since then, its been down hill, with some really deep pits (Twister) and some good peaks (Continuum/BanG), but it will never meet the time back in VIE days.

But I hope it does live on. Its a great game. Plus, if aliens ever attack us, think of all the people with fighting skills.

Lol! Anybody read Ender's Game? Hehe, the simulator, never thought of that before.

Anyway, yes I guess I gotta agree it's dead. I just wish some company would pick it up. I'd actually be glad to pay for a subgame that is updated regularly and not quite so glad (but still glad) for a client that is updated regularly.

I think most people have read it. Good book. The rest in the ender series aren't great, but I like the bean series (what I have read of it).

I don't know why people want updates all the time, if you buy a commercial game there are maybe one or two pacthes a few months after release and that's it. If anything major is added (like Yuri's Revenge to RA2), then you are going to have to pay for it, and I haven't seen anyone pay for Continuum.

Alright, I got here a bit too shy i know.. But to attempt to take this thread back onto the original concept, but ask yourselves how did Priitk get the source code to begin with? Can't the people reverse engineer it themselves? If enough people get together, and threaten to reverse engineer the game, Priitk would be forced to make a choice, actauly 'share' bits and pieces with other coders... Everyone shouldn't require all the pieces to do a complete overhaul to the game itself, but break themselves down into core groups, with Priitk the head of it all working together on each segmant of the code itself to bring out a 'true' update. =\ Smong's right, comercial games don't release a new patch but every few months, we shouldn't expect an update every month, but once every year an a half, or so, sounds about reasonable, doesn't it?
I don't know, i'm not a 'true' coder yet, I'm only learning =\ But, Kids who don't share they're toys are often soon left in the dust when the others find 'better' toys. new_evil.gif

Whats the need to share? Its a very simple physics game, you just need to know how to code it into an engine. There are plenty of books on how to do this, but the problem is time. You need time to code it, and you need to be somewhat good so it won't screw up constantly. And for most people, past schooling, time = money. Priit did continuum in his freetime before/during Kazaa programming, but now he is actually working harder in real life, so his side projects get the back burner.

most lazy people won't program a complete game... even with help. Most non-lazy persons would rather write something with a little more dignity attached to it.
