Post subject: Weapons with directions...
Just an idea, but have the server set a weapon (like a bomb) with the momentium (sp?) of the player at the time of firing (The player's direction could work too, but momentium would add a more realistic feel to them since the bomb would go in that direction anyways). This way, bombs won't have to be round spheres but any shape the creator chooses.

Problem - The weapon gfx would have to be extended to that of a shipset, maybe more to include the animations as they are now.

Not trying to put you down, but this is more than just a server side change. The client would need to be changed as well, which is never going to happen.

I'm not sure what you mean by momentum (mass * velocity, but since there really isn't mass in subspace would probably just be velocity), but they already use the player's direction and speed as its base speed before adding the bomb velocity. This is how you can make weapons stationary by going backwards under some settings.

Unrelated Note:

Bombs that appear stationary actually still have movement. IF you can get it to appear stationary, which is possible, it will actually form a mine. Or this may be just a feature of SubSpace & not Continuum. I did it once, much to my excitement, but was unable to duplicate it. icon_sad.gif

continuum doesn't allow you to do it, unless you're clever and use a wormhole

Actually, any bomb moving at a speed less than 5 will use a mine graphic. Setting repels to speed 0-5 will show this pretty obviously.

I'm not sure if the alive time changes when it becomes a mine, or if just the graphic changes.

By momentum, I mean that when you are moving, turn sideways, then fire a bomb, it moves the direction that you are moving in, while giving an extra push in the direction your facing.

Sound like velocity to me.

that's how it does work

One time I saw someone post about how they could make bombs curve around corners by the way they shot them.

Curveball baby. Its all in the flip of the wrist.

You can make them curve around corners if there's a wormhole on the inside or outside edge of the corner, as shown in this ms paint diagram:

I'd like to see this negative gravity object you have. I'll credit the Nobel Prize to you and all, but would be interested in seeing it just to see it.

I've been trying to think of a good, witty response to that for several days with no luck icon_sad.gif

I am a failure

That's Edited!

Anyways If you want different angles on bombs.bm2 at least. Try experimenting by putting the graphic angled on the frame ( not entirely or not at all on the center ). such as lines for lasers moving up and down but spread out in angles. I haven't attempted this yet but I will. For the curve ball
it could be animated such as moving in different curved directions frame by frame. You could place a bomb on the top left of the frame making it difficult to hit he opponent. Things such as these would be interesting.

That screenshot is 100% pure except for the cropping I did.

With your idea, it may look like its curving or just doing barrel rolls, but would still be going in a straight line. When you use a wormhole it ACTUALLY curves.

D1st0rt has a point there Gene. But Stiil, your idea sounds nice. icon_smile.gif

No, space is curved. The bomb goes in a straight line. (But bullets curve!) icon_cool.gif

bombs curve around wormholes depending on a .cfg setting under wormhole's as shoen bellow in a extract from one of mine .cfg files

[Wormhole]
GravityBombs=1
SwitchTime=40
