General Questions - Checksum error CypherJF - Sat Feb 21, 2004 11:50 pm Post subject: Checksum error
Okay okay, I left Mr Ekted a PM on SSC, but I wonder if I could get a faster responce this way...
A couple sop's are argueing about the "packet checksum" error/warn they receive from players. pne argued it's due to a router configuration, as the other opposed to it argued it was just simply their ISP messin up..
I was wondering if anyone w/ knowlege about this particular issue, would care to explain this to my buddies lol...
I figure something's wrong w/ the player being its sending invalid packets... ? but there again I thought subgame drops invalid packets.. and what not?

Position packets have a checksum to prevent proxy-type tampering. Subgame does drop them, but reports them. If they occur randomly, I wouldn't be too concerned. If they always seem to happen at a point when it might be beneficial to the player in question (about to score a goal, about to die, etc) then you might have some question about intentional tampering.

Does it say checksum error, or position checksum error, as they are different? Forget the technical terms each used by subgame.
And usually packet-tampers just drop the packet, and not attempt to touch the data inside it. A simple *einfo should show if they are idiots (ie: running a local proxy), while the smarter people would use another upstream machine (ie: linux router) to do the packet tampering.
