Okay, to some more experienced computer users, this will seem like a very "Newb" like question. Is it possible to run the Zone Server on any distro of linux? And if yes, how would I go about doing it? |

Basically, yes. (Of course stripped down distros for firewall use and things probably won't work).
If you aren't experienced with computers, I wouldn't recommend it. If you want you can download Linux. Download any distro of choice (Ubuntu is what I use).
You can run ASSS natively, but you will have to install and use wine to run subgame and subbill (my biller will run on any OS with java and use ASSS).
If you want to run continuum on Linux you will need to download and build the source and all. If you just want to run a server with Linux just install the package of wine with the package manager.
I would suggest that you stick with what you know. I don't think you, personally, will get anything special out of using Linux.
Ignoring that.. get started like this:
Download any distro of Linux
Download ASSS
(Optional) Open the package manager and try to download and install wine
(Optional) Then just download a biller |

I was just wondering did you preview your post? It looks like you've reached a stage MMaverick was going through, you're trying to help but it just isn't coming out right.
Quote: | If you want to run continuum on Linux you will need to download and build the source and all. | What this means is you need the source to wine. Wine will let you run windows programs under linux. To run cont you need to manually patch wine before compiling it. However subgame and subbill should run under wine without any changes (so you could grab a precompiled version of wine). _________________ ss news |

That's exactly what I meant. Sorry for not being clear about that. |

In case you don't know, there are two different servers, subgame and ASSS. Subgame is the more traditional one, and Doc Flabby has a guide up either in here or trash talk detailing how to set up subgame on Linux. If I run across it in a bit, I'll link you to it, but it's probably in the wiki as well.
Ah, here it is: http://forums.minegoboom.com/viewtopic.php?t=6592 . |
