The question is basically the topic.
If i set each ship Bomb Speed to "0" wouldn't that be like a mine because then it wouldn't move? So technically If i put bombspeed = 0 wouldn't it sort of be like "unlimited" mines?

Pretty much, but of course bombs have a different alive time. _________________ This help is informational only. No representation is made or warranty given as to its content. User assumes all risk of use. Cyan~Fire assumes no responsibility for any loss or delay resulting from such use.

Only if your ship is not moving and BombThrust is set to zero as well, then yes you'll lay non-moving bombs. VIE used to draw all bombs with no speed as mines (a trick so repelling mine caused them to turn into bombs). Continuum used to do this, until the testers realized that repelling a bouncy-bomber's mines caused the mines to turn into bouncy bombs.
They are still bombs, but with a non-moving ship and no bomb thrust, they seem like mines. Another trick is to have bomb thrust be zero and bomb speed be the negative value of the max speed, thus when flying at peak speed your bombs will act like mines because their net speed (ship speed + bomb speed - bomb thrust) would be 0. |

The bug still exists to an extent in Continuum, just to a much lesser degree. If you set repel speed to 0 and fire one off, any bombs caught in the blast are turned into mines.
I'm not entirely sure why Priit decided to make the object type directly dependant on the velocity of the object rather than a flag or id, but whatever. _________________ There are 7 user(s) ignoring me right now. |

Oh, and for a perfect example of bomb speed equaling zero in action, check out TW's Shark.
Sounds like you're trying to get unlimited mines... I'd thought the max was 32, but I was playing pictionary on TW and we laid a whole lot more than 32. I'm curious, what could you be doing that you'd need that many mines? |

An old method to get unlimited mines is to go to a different frequency, turn on *mirror (sysop required), then go back to your normal frequency. The mirror will stay on the other frequency. Now, every mine you lay will blow up on your screen but be visible on other people's screens. Warning: mirror lays its own mines, so unless you are careful or using *super/*ufo, you have a high chance of killing yourself. |
