never use bmp
use JPG for photos and rendered graphics
use PNG for everything else, or when you want lossless photos or rendered graphics |

I believe it doesn't matter that much since LVZ is another compression on its own.
But using BMP is always overkill since it can be put in any other format which takes less space. Esp. convenient for the one who opens your lvz and edits it. _________________

I still don't believe that. PNG does more than just zlib compression. _________________ This help is informational only. No representation is made or warranty given as to its content. User assumes all risk of use. Cyan~Fire assumes no responsibility for any loss or delay resulting from such use.

Agreed. Image compression is not a simple Huffman or LZW type of function of the data. Similarly, you can't compress audio very much with those algorithms. You have to understand what makes and image look like it does, or what makes audio sound like it does, and find the proper redundancies. _________________ 4,691 irradiated haggis! |

i suggest using PNG, that way, you have less space and less download time (which is annoying to have) and plus, you can use PNG Crush, which compresses it more, then you got the lvz compression, jpg and bmp cant do that so i say go for PNG |

Yeah, but bak try compressing them win LVZ; BMP turns out smaller than PNG. ( I wish you didn't make CLIT all conver to PNG PFFFT). _________________ X-SSCI Halo CTF Administrator

not always.
PNG will usually beat out BMP in lvz. At least, that's what I think. You should try it on a bunch of images and give us your results. |

I've had bmps come out on top of bmp vs png lvz compression test several times.
As for the jpg thing, you can't use jpegs when you want to do transparency. _________________ Hyperspace Owner

Or if you really want to be nice, could add it into your program. It doesn't take long to compress the image as both a BMP and a PNG, and then use only the one that wins. |

If a bmp ever compresses better than png, there's something wrong with either the lvz format or zlib. |
