I'm having a load of trouble with this. I got my server onto the directory list, but that link doesn't work. I manually entered it on my computer and got in, but I had my friend try and neither the link or the manual enter worked. I had him try a number of IPs, but nothing seemed to work. Anyone's help would be much appreciated.

All ready saw that... Not the issue, I had forwarded the ports the first time... But, do I forward the Directory port or the server.ini [misc]port?

You just forward the [Misc]Port in server.ini (the server's listening port).

I'm not certain he has a clue what he's doing, and his settings are probably all jumbled-up.

Um...No. I've got my server up and running along with 3 bots, I'm not retarded, I spent all day yesterday fixing a stupid MERVbot plugin, and I came here to see if anyone could help because I don't have the time right now to try and fix it myself. Plus, my settings, to my knowledge, are not screwed up. I got it on the directory, but the zone is red when you take it off the directory, and even when other people (not me) enter it manually, the server is still red. I can get in no problem. My bots get through right away too.

Forgot: I already forwarded the [misc]port, I was just wondering if I had to forward the other one too.

No the directory port is not for people to connect to you it is the port of the directory server... Only reason noone would see your zone in the list is either you changed the directory port, messed up server.ini, firewall, or router..........

post your server.ini in here (without the passwords) so we can take a look at it

Server appears in the directory just fine.

Again, if the zone is red, the port/packets aren't being forewarded or a firewall is blocking the machine from transmitting, which is also applicable to the directory.

I know, I got the zone in the directory, and I can get in just fine. The problem is, no one else can. I have already forwarded the ports. My router to computer and vise versa.

Either the forewarding wasn't set correctly or a firewall blocks the transmissions, nothing more to it.

Remember XP has a built in firewall that normaly is always on unless you have already turned it off, if you installed sp2 then it will be turned on again... check to see if it is on, if it is then you need to open the server port +1 in the firewall too... All so what kind of router are you running? FYI Networkeverywhere and Linksys have a feature called block wan request which will cuase your zone to be red to outside people. You'll need to disable that also.

I have a D-Link. And the firewall for XP, I'm going to try and forward the ports through that. Thats what I didn't do. I originally forwarded them through the router's filter. I'll try that, thanks.

Seeing as how you set your [misc] Port to 1020, indeed it is (correct).

Just turn off the Windows Firewall, it's useless if you have a router.

Heres the thing, its not my computer. If I turn off the firewall, my dads probably gonna kick the sh!t out of me and give me a lecture on hackers....lol....So, port forwarding is the best I can do. If someone wants to try the server and see it works, I'll leave it running all day, but I won't be there. If it works or doesn't please post here.

If you have a firewall that denies incoming/outgoing communication then your zone will remain inaccessible for anyone outside your home's network.

I know my firewall doesn't and I even forwarded the ports. I just got a new router though. Trying to set it up. Its a linksys, and so far, I'm not having any problems with it.

I would of checked it for you but I dont even have continuum installed anymore since I dont play it anymore... Odd I know but I still know alot about getting these servers to run... I would just ignore SpecShip since he's repeating everything we have already covered... If noone can find the zone still let us know.

There is a tut for linksys made by me, its a stickie in the General Questions forum on here... might help you out alot.... 1 thing I can say is look for the option called Block WAN request... even if you forward the ports if that is enabled it will not let your server work, so make sure to disable that... not sure what part of the setup its in... just look at my tut and it will give you step by step for linksys routers. Hope it helps

He specificaly expressed his intention to leave the firewall enabled, which more than likely blocks everything.
Could be that he did the forewarding wrong, as well.
I did lookup his zone, it was dead red and could not be connected to.

And you watch your tongue, frogger.

Ok, wEaViL. I already disabled the block WAN requests. That was one of the first things I did to my new router. Thanks both of you, but I am still gonna have to play around with some of the settings on my computer to get it to work.

Heres a site that might help you a little... Whatever the problem is its with your computer or router....

Try changing your server port to something more round like 2000 or 10000 and forward those... not sure it that will help as I always used 10000, 11000, and 12000 for the zones I used to host.
