Well, I've gone through many helpful threads, but have finally gotten stuck.
I start up subbill.exe (this is catid version)
then I start up subgame2.exe
and everything seem to work fine. I then open up my continuum client (note that this is a different computer, will explain full setup later in post)
My zone does not appear on the zone list, and so I click Add Custom Zone, entering in the required information.
My zone popps up, and it is green, looking just like the other up and running servers in the list. I click on it, and then hit 'play'. I get a 'This Zone is Not Connected to the Central Database." error. I then click yes to still go to the zone, and then I am stuck indefinitely in the "enter arena". In the end, the server will give a simple "Menu kickout delay exceeded" error, but the client will still be stuck in the "enter arena" screen.
I haven't seen anyone with this problem before, which is why I posted about it.
My setup: Computer the server is running on is windows xp home edition. I have a firewall running, and a linksys router. I already use this computer to host servers from a different game.
I have my two server ports, 4700 and 4701 being forwarded to the right computer, and I know I have that blick wan request disabled as it should be.
My firewall should be allowing the connection. When I completely disable my firewall, I still get the same result as before.
If you need anymore information, just ask. Attached my server.ini and my subbill.ini

Just a quick note: you will always get the message about not being connected to the central database; as only SSC-zones are.
I haven't had an opportunity to read of the post... sorry. _________________ Performance is often the art of cheating carefully. - James Gosling

| Thanks for telling me that. Is there a way I can become a SSC-zone?

seems like a weird way to run things, but oh well, hehe.
Since I can't be on the zone list, do I still need to have users connect through the zone add custom zone feature, or is there a separate option for the not quite 40+ average players of us?
Still... would like my original post answered more than anything

| you can still be on downlaod zones list, not being connected to central database just means you wont be connected with chats, scoreid, biller options wtc. to the majority of zones and people in the game.

if you could expand on that a little bit, as well as telling me how to do what you are implying, it would be very much appreciated

wtf?
The Central User Database, is the biller of SSC. All non-SSC zones will receive that message stating that your password could potentionally be breached, if you enter/create an account on that biller.
Now, the way to get on SSC- is very unlikely. It requires 1.) your zone be majorly one of a kind, 2.) must have a higher population: take TW, EG for example, 3.) Once those are completed, the entire SSC council must approve the zone before being added into the service.
Last I knew SSCC and SSCX are no longer taking on anymore zones.
Really, the term 'biller' is sooner or later probably going to be replaced with "user database", since the original intent of the biller was to log usage, and bill players for their time on the game. It is mostly now evolved to handle score keeping, chat systems, cross-zone messaging, BanG (network-wide banning system), etc. This is what Catid's/Subbill do for you. So just because you're not on the central user database, does not mean you won't have access to these options. Now note, the only way you can cross message zone's if there are more than 1 zone connected to the biller.
This is why, when you go into TW, you can PM someone in EG, or Powerball, or even Hyperspace . They're all on the SSC biller.
This is why you can cross-message on SSN/NTC zones, because they're connected to the SSN biller.
SSI is another popular biller which hosts, who know's how many other zones (or provides billing options)...
I hope that can help you out a little bit more..

Thanks, that does make at least that aspect more clear.
Though... people, we aren't getting the main problem solved Server isn't working correctly - refer to first post. Would really like to get this working
btw, even tried turning firewall off while having server computer a DMZ host, and that did not work, so i assume there MUST be something in the ini files I'm missing.

When you run subgame2.exe, does it dock with subill.exe? if not, then try running subgame2.exe without subill.exe. Once your server times out from looking for a biller, it goes into stand alone mode. Then try logging into your zone. If you can, then try changing your billing IP in your server.ini from LOCALHOST to 127.0.0.1.
I will have to check, but I believe I was running subbill2.exe (or a newer version of it), though it could have been subgame2 over subgame. My local server is no longer active.
If you are running through a router, then I found I needed to add a custom zone and use my local IP for my server (ie 192.168.0.3) because it would not let me connect using my zone's published IP. Once you are able to log in using your local IP, get a buddy to try logging into your zone using your published IP.
Sounds confusing, but I am totally new at all this crap and went through the same thing with my netgear router. Of course I could be ALL wrong and the pros will point that out, but between me and you, this should help you alot in troubleshooting your problem. _________________ No, that was just a love tap... here's the bitch slap!

Just the opposite, but he's already done it anyway.
There is also a better biller (Catid's Subbill2), and he's using it, if you even bothered to look at the subbill.ini he's using.
Are you clicking yes to the "central database" message immediately? It sounds right now as if your client is just taking to long to connect to the zone. _________________ This help is informational only. No representation is made or warranty given as to its content. blackmoon, your post has helped a lot so far.
Currently: I can finally connect with other computers on my LAN. This is good news. With or without using subbill (catid's), I can connect with other computers on my LAN by using the server computer's local IP.
I don't know yet if it will work with WAN though, which is where I want to go with this. At the moment, I don't have anyone online that would test this for me (they being the type that like to sleep in till 3pm) and so I will give out my the specifications, so if some kind soul could try to connect and then post on here if he could/couldn't, it would be appreciated.
Zone: Warzone of Eternity
IP: 68.189.46.178
Port: 4700
Also, if anyone else has ideas, please post them as well. The more posts there are helping me, the more posts there are helping the whole community

Yes, I am clicking yes to that central database message immediately. Would it be better to wait a while before clicking it?

it looks like people can connect now thanks blackmoon. In fact, thank you all for your help.
The thing about connecting on a lan with a router, and using your local IP should be added to a general resource, if it hasn't been already.
I can't wait to see what you all can do with this game via ASSS. Gl to everyone involved in such things, you have my full support.

Yeah, I looked at it but didnt see a difference. I looked at mine too, I was using subbill2 so that is why I didn't see the difference. I never used subbill so pardon me there.
