Nethack, the only RPG game I've ever liked, has a prettified version of it that is good for people who don't read manuals. That version is called Falcon's Eye.
Nethack is one of the oldest games that was ever made that is still being developed upon even today. It is, in its pure form, 100% text based. It does have some windows version where the tiles are prettier, but you still have to know all the 50+ different text-based commands, which is pretty difficult to figure out for those who never read manuals. I love this game because it is very rich in game play and though, once you get past the huge barrier of figuring out what commands do what, and how to do some of the 'secret' things. That, and its the only game that plays great on my 5 year old WinCE device.
What Falcon's Eye does, it makes it look pretty, so for those of you that hate being @ [in NetHack, the @ is you], you can actually look like a guy. But what makes this better than just changing the text-based symbols into tile based images, is that it has all the commands inside menus and icons such that you actually click on them with a mouse.
Some great screenshots can be found at their website. |

Falcon's Eye is ok, but I like nethack, because you can see where things are better. A non isometric nethack would be ideal. _________________ Hyperspace Owner

Mine, if you like Nethack, have you tried out Angband (http://www.thingorodrim.net)? It's similar, but it seems to be a lot harder to start off, but gets easier as you go, and it's also based off of J.R.R. Tolkein's books: The Hobbit, Two Towers (?), etc. It is also completely text-based, like Nethack, but it is a lot more customizable from outside the code than Nethack is: you can edit monster files and vault files, etc.
BTW: I didn't know there were many people who like games like Continuum AND games like Nethack... |

I personally like games that are more into the gameplay than the prettyness. SS has great gameplay, and was fun as hell when every zone was run by VIE and when Jeffp did his *ufo/*super in games, NO ONE knew what the hell was going on.
So, if you are wondering, I do hate Half-Life, which includes Counter-Strike. But I do like Doom, Duke3D, and some of the multiplayer parts of Unreal Tourny (original one). |

Oh, another version I could link to. Its more user-friendly at the cost of looking like a game made within the last 5 years, which maybe better for some people. noeGNUd. |

I like SS, Final Fantasy (and other similar RPGs) but not many of the new ones, RTS (Total Annihilation, Age of Empires II mainly), and a bit of Turn-Based Strategy (Total War games).
Pretty varied. But, I have to say, SS is the only game I play every day since I've been running a server. _________________ This help is informational only.
