LVZ/LVL Questions - Sick! background size

I made a background, enlarged it so it would fit a whole continuum arena
now it's: 14142 x 14538 pixels and 114 mb size!!! icon_eek.gif and that's in gif format: the smallest format there is icon_eek.gif icon_eek.gif icon_eek.gif unbelievable. Lvz toolkit x wouldn't even start compressing it.... neither give the error message; Continuum only downloads lvz that are less than 4 megabytes (I don't blame it).

Ok, you might wanna shrink the image to about 600 x 600, use tiledmajick to set the dimensions and create a background INI file. From there you can BuildLevel it. icon_biggrin.gif

Also, GIF isn't the smallest format out there, and I think it's the opposite. PNG is best for Continuum, and JPG is best for backgrounds (well I think so). sa_tongue.gif

I guess I was wrong about GIF...

I started to think that when I converted a BMP to GIF, then the file size became larger. icon_wink.gif

Did you compress the gif at all? But yeah, I would go with PNG for just about everything except photos
Purge - Thu Mar 17, 2005 6:44 pm
Post subject:
No, I didn't compressing anything. Just went with the ol' 'Save As' thingy. sa_tongue.gif

A GIF should never be larger than a BMP. That's just... impossbile (kinda).

You're assuming the standard rules are in play

Well, then I guess I was one of the "kinda" people. sa_tongue.gif

jpg if it's something you don't mind getting some artifacts

png all-round

bmp if you're ultra-super-picky and want the absolute lowest filesize (sometimes, sometimes PNG is best)

that message from X-Lvz-Toolkit is a warning, the lvz file is still made, it's just bigger than 4 megs so users must download it by hand to use it

Perfect screenshot. icon_biggrin.gif

Tiledmajick will just generate the LVZ INI code to repeat an image across the background of a level. So, you specify the width of the image, the height of the image, and the # that you want it to be. It doesn't touch the image itself, it just makes the map object code.

ah, i understand but i didn't make like grass... which can be scattered all over the map... i made a 14142 x 14538 pixels background with different colours; like lava, grass, lake, rocky, ice, snow and so on icon_sad.gif

Then just select bits and pieces of it and set it as LVZ objects...

Purge - Sat Mar 19, 2005 10:15 pm
Post subject:
Doesn't have to be with CLIT, but it can. Just make the INI and, blah, you know the rest. icon_wink.gif

Make a pattern image to repeat for each of yours, use tiledmajick to generate the INI code for each area that you want to use.
