To convert the .rec playback files from the record module to a format playable in windows media player or VLC? A movie format, rather. _________________ Owner of SSCE Hockey Zone.

I'm not 100% sure but I think .rec files are explicit to ASSS, as it's an ASSS module that produces them. |

You'd have to set up a server to convert them. Have a copy of the server play the recording while someone records their screen in Continuum. _________________ Hyperspace Owner

If that's the only option then we can just have someone record them straight off our server.
I was hoping for some sort of direct conversion (ie. .rec to .wmv), but I suppose that would take quite a bit of programming if it were even possible. |

I don't know about all that but it'd be pretty easy for someone with programming experience to make a simple playback program to watch them outside continuum. |

To my knowledge, it only records the position/weapon packets and things of that sort, instead of storing any actual video. So it's easy to replicate with fake players, but I have absolutely no idea how you'd manage to convert that to video form. I'm sure it's possible, but it would probably take a lot of the same code the client was coded in. I'm not sure, that's just a guess. |

Yeah, without a continuum physics engine plus a continuum graphics engine, it can't be done. |

Well it would be possible with a lot of coding... You'd have to generate the frames yourself depending on the data provided... You draw ships with their positions, and weapons, and interpolate between each packet. But yeah, basically that would be recoding a continuum graphics/physics engine. Maybe with Discretion it would be possible.
The only advantage of this vs capturing screen is you don't lose quality... But you'd also need to specify the viewpoint of the video; during a playback, I suppose you can spec the fake players, move around, and so on _________________ (Insert a bunch of dead links here) |
