It's not dead, they just shortened the audeince this year (made event smaller). Its not really a big deal, just a bunch of old men pretending they love video games.

E3 was an extravaganza for tens of thousands of people.
Now it'll become some secluded press release for about a hundred.
Do the math, it's dead.

this WAS the biggest along with the Tokyo one that was open to the public and this one was exclusive. its generally the one with the first sneak peek at many games and stuff. i would've wanted to go if i knew someone who could get in.. but they're dwindling down the numbers |

The problem wasn't that the E3 organisers couldn't afford it, it was that the developers who showed off their work there were paying so much money, without much gain through the advertising. |

That's a load of bull. How do you think things like PS2, Xbox 360, Nintendo's new system that looks like a remote, came word to the public. Also other new games that are at E2 are always in the media, giving a review. E3 is just one big press conference, where the developers explain their products, they actually don't even have to spend much, because then their interviews go out in places like IGN, and other websites or magazines. |

There had been plenty of advertising.
Valve begun as a small indie dev (although, well funded) at the kentina hall where it was first spotted. |

Yeah it is good. But, that was the reason that companies can't afford such huge booths and presentations for the amount of publicity they get. That's reason it's being scaled down. I read this on the last.fm forums a day or two ago. |

Then they should have split it, Maur, not scaled it down. The public expo and the official reviewing could be two separate entities. And by the way, E3 was not the biggest, it was the second biggest. The most important one is still Space World in Tokyo. |
