Hey, I just looked at Discretion for the first time, and congratulations! I had always looked down on you as a Java tard, but this is pretty impressive.
One thing:
Why do you create all the controls for the frontend with no text and then send a WM_SETTEXT right afterwards? _________________ This help is informational only. If it wasn't obivous by the crappiness of it, this was my first attempt at making a Windows API GUI. I think calling the text parameter lpWindowName threw me off. _________________ SubSpace Discretion: A Third Generation SubSpace Client |

You get looked down upon by Cyan, apparently. Though I have my own reservations about his coding prowess. _________________ Hyperspace Owner

Sheesh, I was just exaggerating a bit, you don't have to insult my "coding prowess" in return. Anyway, I think you're confusing choice with ignorance.

Yeah, it's pretty confusing. If you have any questions regarding the API, feel free to IM me, I've been working with its quirks for a while now, though naturally most of your work is with SDL and algorithms.
Another suggestion would be to use new and delete instead of GlobalAlloc() and GlobalFree() for your memory allocation. It's easier because new will do the typecasting for you and it's probably faster, too. |

Nice work Bak.
Sad to say though, you're a wasted resource for bothering on this game.

You should join us Bak.
You can create other parts of the design, code-wise.
Maybe even implement the preliminary network underlying stracture. |

setup a svn or cvs for the client programming, so everyone can contribute!
It allows people to branch the code, make some improvements then u can merge that code back into the main code. |

If needed, I have a fancy new server that has tons of disk space and processing power still. Subversion is already setup on it, as that is what I use for my own projects. |

First of all, great work on the client, Bak!
Do you already accept coders to help you with the project?

I was about to suggest that aswell. However there needs to be one person for releasing versions.
A custom solution for cvn/cvs would be great (like on MGB's server) but a forum would also be nice. So maybe sourceforge is a good idea? _________________

I think sourceforge is going down the drain with all the changes they have made. I'm used to the old interface. |

My experience with CVS and SVN is well, let's just say I'll set one up only if we need it. For now just e-mail any contributions to bak2007 at gmail and I'll do it by hand.

I've used svn and cvs both and neither seemed to do anything for the project. We ended switching to an FTP server because it was just a mess. If I start to go mad I'll set one up
Quote: | Can we setup a forum somewhere for discussion/ideas/etc? | There's a pretty long SSforum topic full of ideas http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showtopic=7168 . There's a blog-type setup near the bottom of the main page(http://rshl.org/bak/client.php) for comments and bugs. Right now, there's still plenty of things to do to get it up to par with Continuum. |
