Had some free time, so decided to finaly catch up with what the hell all this fanboyism was about (don't play Halo...screw consoles).
So, I read about speculation of how it relates to Larry Niven's works.
And I read a couple summaries about the bees thing.
Aside the AI and such issues, it sounds to me that Niven's works been quite the inspiration source behind it all.
Putting the pieces together, it sounds like much of starcontrol series was built upon the same principles, as is Halo.
If you look at some of the core themes, it plays out quite like this:
Ancient race of advanced beings, fearing annihilation by a fierce alien race that they cannot seem defeat (almost reminds me somewhat of the stargate TV series grand plot/background story to life on Earth) devolve themselves and trigger devices that wipes out all intelligent life form in the universe (to a certain IQ and upwards creteria), so they're spared.
They also send 'seeds' of themselves to distant worlds.
Then, another generation of creatures evolve from these devolved seeds to once again reveal their presence in the universe, something which most likely deem themselves to the same fate, until another 'generation' can figure out the final solution.
So if to hold such a speculation true, sounds like Halo is in some form that resembles starcontrol.
And at Nivel's story, you had superior race of beings with uber psychic abilities that gained them the ability to dominate intelligence life forms.
Yep, quite reminds me that starcontrol story.
Meh.
Still need to figure out where all the AI psycho-drama is coming from.
It does sound oddly familiar though...particulary these portions where that durga AI speaks with some kinda hacker or something, I've seen this element somewhere before...but where?
Guess I should buy some of Nivel's novels, sounds quite interesting. _________________ Replacing yazour untill the whore returns.

Having never played the game, why do you care? And even if you do care, why do you post your drivel here? _________________ Hyperspace Owner

I don't care.
It's just that it's interesting in the sci-fi literature paradigm of which I'm a fan.
This is trash talk forum, you should expect topics here which neither concern nor relate to nor relevant to you. |
