Alright, so I have these DDS and TGA files from some game, I'm assuming textures, graphics, whatever.
For the life of me I can't find anything to crack them open.
I tried nvidia tools, plugins, whatever, nothing can view them, all says incorrect file format or something of the sort.
Only thing I hadn't tried is getting them to open in 3D studio max.
I think they might be encrypted.
So anyway, if anyone can break these eggs into an omlet for me, much appriciated.

The DirectDraw Surface (.dds) file format is used to store textures and cubic environment maps, both with and without mipmap levels. This format can store uncompressed and compressed pixel formats, and is the preferred file format for storing DXTn compressed data. This file format is supported by the DirectX Texture tool(DirectX Texture Editor (dxtex.exe)), as well as some non-Microsoft tools, and by the D3DX library. |

Well, just like I thought, the damn thing didn't work.
Way to waste hours upon hours d/l that shit.
I guess I could develop for DX now if I wanted...
So, once again, if anyone can hack out whatever compression (or possibly even encryption) is on these files, maybe make me an app to produce out the uncompressed stuff, much appriciated. |

It's pretty obviously compressed. It's definitely not raw DEFLATE and, as far as I can tell, not zlib-wrapped either. _________________ This help is informational only. I don't expect it to be any harder than hacking out the 8-bit or 16-bit compression method used for Infantry's files.
Decent hackers should be able to figure the sequence out and reverse it.
Sigh, I just want to be able to view the source files.
Now that I d/l all sorts of DDS viewers, all I need is the compression gone.
Custom Made Uncompress anyone? |
