Ive never quite understood it... yet its become a trend and standard -- Im sure most of you know exactly what Im talking about...
Why is it that all forum ignore features still display some retarded box saying 'you have this person ignored, click here to read this post'. Im pretty sure if I click the 'ignore' button, that I dont want to see their text now or anytime in the future. Furthermore, in other games or chat mediums when you ignore someone, you dont get a message stating "_____ has typed a message, do _____ to see this message". Somewhere along the line someone thought it was a grand idea to let me know when someone I ignored was talking. Hey terrific, instead of an idiot, I get a parrot.
I bring this up since I know how much MGB loves hacking up his forums. MGB, next time youre bored, please mod the forums so they dont display that awful box for ignored users. _________________ There are 7 user(s) ignoring me right now. |

I don't ever ignore anyone, so I never really notice. If it gets annoying, I can make it so it isn't really much more than a very small line, mostly so you know 'Ignored post by XXXX'. Maybe make a simple temp-unignore all posts in that thread button, instead of doing single-view. |

You guys like how the Ignore Thread works? That was a very quick and ugly hack to make that work in a way that wouldn't effect me. I'm surprised the random things I did to make it work didn't blow up the search engine. |

Suprisingly, I agree with Cerium.
That box is plain stupid.
However, I like applications to be customizeable and leave the freedom of choice in the hand of the user.
I propose editing the profile code and the sql tables to include a binaric flag for the mode of operation by which someone is ignored.
IE a profile switch for whether or not to display the "you have ignored this user, click here to view their post" thingy. _________________ Replacing yazour untill the whore returns.

Temporarily unignore all posts in a thread and have that work across pages would be nice. What about that expand/collapse thing that other forums have? You can take half the code from the [ code ] tags. |

Or... when you ignore someone, just don't show their box at all. _________________ Haha SpecShip |

But if you really hate someone to an extent that you have to ignore them altogether, why do you need to read their post? It's doubtful that their post (let's use Spyed in this example) will contribute anything sensible anyway.
You don't really need them on ignore if you want to read their post. |

@Grav: Ahh, so you're one of the ones that clicks "HERE" for every post I see?
Anyway, there are two situations I can think of right now when I would want to see the content. The first is if the ignored apologizes and expresses an intent to improve, like Assassin (whom I removed from my list). The second is if someone replies to a thread I created. |

Yeah, but until then (As when a person doesn't show any improvement and does not reply to your topic you made), we don't really need to see a box saying that you ignored someone. |

Perhaps what MGB was suggesting -- a bar no larger than the region used for the 'profile, pm, ignore, etc' buttons that has the same text as before?
Or if he really wants to be ambitious, an option to view said warnings -- as grav suggested, but perhaps on a per-user basis. So the message reads:
"You have chosen to ignore Cerium. Click here to view this post, here to unignore this user or here to ignore further warnings for this user."
I think if it were in micro-text in a small enough bar, it could be functional without being a waste of screen real estate. |

The way I filter past the spam is by very quickly glancing through the thread, if I see a post next to an avatar of someone I recognise as usually having nothing good to say(newb's avatar, for example), I'll skip over it if it looks like it's some one-liner comment. Personally, I would like some avatar or font color ot distinguish something that would more likely be important or not, instead of the ignore. |
