I believe the design resolution (that is, the minimum resolution for a website to display normal) used to be 800x600. I think nowadays you can say it is 1024x768. However I still see alot of websites with the notice that it is designed for 800x600.
What would you consider the minimum resolution for a website you are making or for any other website? _________________

You don't, however you must set a minimum resolution to support. Everything below that you know will make the website look like crap.
It's impossible to support all resolutions, either it looks like crap on 320x200 or 1280x1024. |

I don't know, it used to be the standard was 600x400; but I'd imagine it'd be 800x600. _________________ Performance is often the art of cheating carefully. - James Gosling |

You think? I think "most" people use 1024x768 now.
(Considering most new budget pcs come with a LCD that has max resolution of 1024x768) |

This is untrue, and if you think it's true, then you're incompetent. |

Design it to be scalable from 1024x768 through 1280x1024, but it has to be liveable on 800x600. _________________ Hyperspace Owner

use notepad to make your website and use percents instead of fixed pixels for the width of tables and such and it won't look bad on any normal resolution. |

Exactly. A horizontal scroll bar should only be required if an image is wider than the window. _________________ This help is informational only. Okay!
People who think they must set a minimum resolution to support are incompetent. You think you must set a minimum resolution to support. Therefore, you're incompetent. Q.E.D.
It's nothing personal.
And yes, you have a different standard of competence than I do, so you can feel free to disagree using your definition of the word. (You might be better than 99% of people, but that's still not competent enough to me.) I don't claim myself to be competent.

800 by 600 would be my res because thats the default size on some computers and if someone is using 800 by 600, the website will fit just right, right? and if i make my website res 1024 x 768, the person with 800 x 600 will still be able to see it without having to scroll horozontally, right? I guess.. I dunno |

Stole the words from my mouth.
I never make a site using pixels, always percents because then it makes everyone happy. |

What I meant to say was when designing the site the min. res I would support is 800x600 but make sure it will still look good in high res... I personaly run 1024 x 768. Its just that a bunch of people I know still run in 800. |
