Processor speed and ram mean little (unless you are hosting a zone with around 50 different subarenas all with 20 large lvz files). The most important factor is your internet connection.

The lower the latency (ping) and the larger the bandwidth (maximum speed), the better. To get a rough idea how much you'll need, try hosting it on a test server, such as on your own LAN or cable modem. Get 5-10 people into the zone, and start fighting. With some tool such as Netmeter, record your average and peak network speeds (Windows XP/2003 both do this with Task Manager).

For most SVS zones, a normal user averages upto 5 KBps. With an average cable modem speed of the range 30KBps to 50KBps, you should be able to host 6-10 people with little problem.

But the most important factor is peak requirement. Say a turret of 5 people go fighting another turret of 5 people, with 5 or so others around or watching from spectator mode, thats a lot of packets going around, which could average around 10-30 KBps per person. With that, you could be using upto 0.5 MBps with only around 15 people. If your connection speed peaks at 300 KBps, a good chunk of packets will be delayed, and problems will arise.

A standard T1 line is around 1.5 MBps, which could easily handle a zone or two. But T1 lines are expensive as hell in most parts of the world.

Average Population Size * Average Bandwidth per person. So say everyone uses upto an average of 5 KBps and you normally have 20 people in your zone, (do some google math: 20 * 5 KBps to GB per month) = 250 GB per month.
