I've got two questions about the "billing" server which comes with "subgame2".

1. Why the name "billing" server? "billing" means that I have to pay for something but subspace is for free. It means that the one who has the "billing" server has to pay for his internet connection or what? *dontunderstand*

2. Why the software "billing" server? "subgame2" does almost everything subspace needs. Why is there a second software needed, which is called "billing" server? As I know the "billing" server only sends data the "subgame2" calculates over the network interface. It's done like this because if you have two components then you don't have to change the "billing" server if you need a new "subgame"?

The billing server was named such, because if people wanted to charge for access to zones, it would be the central database in which would record information such as billing.

A better idea is to think of it as just a username, squad, and score database, which all it is for. That, and allowing multiple zones to talk to each other. The name billing just stuck, since thats the original name for the publicly released database software.

It should be Halflife style - you can create your own games, and host dedicated servers. And for directory servers, there would be like 4 primary servers and 0 custom servers, thats it, the end. ~_~ Continuum should come with a 'Create Zone' button where it has a cute little menu with Options of what you want the zone to be configured on, then you click CREATE, and it creates a server by connecting to one of the "Directory Billing Servers." Eh, Directory Servers should not also be just Directory servers, but be BILLING servers with a public password etc. Then maybe one more Subspace Ship should be added, the maximum map size (1024x1024 is max i think) should be doubled, but with the choice of having it 1024 if you dont want a huge map, double tiles ammount (16 lasers/doors, 2 safety's, etc) and everything else. Stuff liek this may attract more people. But whatever. ^_^ Its the way life is right now, Subgame, Subbill, Directory. ~_~

I'm guessing you've never looked at the .cfg files at all. Subspace is very customizable, and drop-down menus for options would not do it justice. Plus, its a pretty old game.
