| When you push ESC it gives you a list of ships like 1 = Warbird 2 = Javelin etc. Is there a way to change the name of the ships?[/i] |

from the FAQ
| Quote: | How can I rename ships and/or descriptions? 2/16/2002
Straight from a SubSpace Council email from Mr. Ekted about custom ship names/images:
They should be in next release. Menu will load ship images from ship#.bm2 and ship2.bm2 files from current zone directory, graphics directory, or ss root directory, each independently. Each will be scaled as necessary to fit the UI. This is enabled with the menu item "View/Zone-Specific Ships" which is off by default. The format of the description file "shipinfo.dat" follows. Ship names are also passed to the in-game code, if Priit wants to use them anywhere.
| shipinfo.dat wrote: | ; Blank lines and those starting with semicolons are ignored.
; Leading and trailing spaces are removed.
; All lines must appear in the order stated below.
; Use * by itself as a placeholder for the default text.
; 8 ship names in normal order (max 16 chars).
Warbird
Javelin
Spider
Leviathan
Terrier
Weasel
Lancaster
Shark
; 8 ship descriptions for menu mouse-over.
; Max is 255 chars, but may be clipped by skin.
; Use * by itself here will use the ship name(s)
; defined above as "Select ship: ."
Select ship: Warbird.
Select ship: Javelin.
Select ship: Spider.
Select ship: Leviathan.
Select ship: Terrier.
Select ship: Weasel.
Select ship: Lancaster.
Select ship: Shark.
; Spectator description for menu mouse-over.
; Max is 255 chars, but may be clipped by skin.
Spectate (watch the game).
; Ship box description for menu mouse-over.
; Max is 255 chars, but may be clipped by skin. |
Select one of eight ships to fly, or be a spectator. You can always change your mind while in the game. |
so make a text file named "shipinfo.dat" with the information given in the "shipinfo.dat wrote:" box
upload it to your server (*putfile shipinfo.dat - must be sysop - or - move shipinfo.dat into your server directory if you have access to it)
then ?set misc:levelfiles:shipinfo.dat in-game or add misc:levelfiles:shipinfo.dat into your server.cfg by other means (esc, c - or - *getfile server.cfg, open in notepad, add, save changes, *putfile server.cfg) |

K I know this post is old but:
Where does it actually change the ship names??
Just in the startup window? It seems awfully useless if so :-/ _________________ This help is informational only. No representation is made or warranty given as to its content. User assumes all risk of use. Cyan~Fire assumes no responsibility for any loss or delay resulting from such use.

| Higher quality zones that would take the time to create a custom shipset, along with new names and backgrounds/roles of the ships would obviously have the backgrounds/roles in the mouse over on the main Continuum screen, so if you were interested in what role a ship would play (kind of like Metal Gear CTF), you could look there. It's just another way to spice up the zone and make it look loved. |
