I understand how tiles work and such, but is there an easier way to make new tiles than playing in tileedit (which I don't think shows all possible colors?) or messing around in paint (which might accidentally use a color that can't be used) |

Use a program like FACTS that will combind and split tilesets from maps, so it will create a .bmp file. Then, use any favorite image editor. The pallete will be loaded from that bmp, so as long as you don't edit the colors in the pallete, you should be fine. Once your done, save, and use FACTS to combind it back into a map. |

Is the less than 256-colors (in tiles) a limitation of TileEdit or SS in general? _________________ This help is informational only. No representation is made or warranty given as to its content. good question
tile edit I don't know, I don't use it, but I would guess so - it's a very simple program...very
supposedly .38 allows for higher color depth in tilesets, but updating the client is not updating .lvl - there has been some concern on whether or not you CAN actually have a .lvl with a tileset that has more than 8-bit color depth
and of course higher color depths can often be very lag-enducing
I still haven't tested higher color depth tilesets on any maps yet, so I don't really know
I know Bob Dole.. Bob Dole... Bob Dole...... bob dole.... bob... dole.... said he tested his tileset changer and the map worked, but I also know someone else (Sass) did the same thing with FACTS (I think) and the map was not able to be used (replaced by defaultlevelfile when he tried to go to arena) |
