I installed windows and got my cell phone to give me the internet (my net went out).
I saw that Windows made itself the boot partition so I made Linux to boot partition. When grub loads it says something about not being able to load the operating system. I changed windows back to the boot os and tried to edit the boot.ini to load linux by using dd to create an image.
The partitions are still there.
When I try to make windows load the image from linux, it just stays at a black screen.
Is there any way I can access a grub terminal or something to update it or use Windows to boot Linux. It's being retarded with me. I'll be googling. |

I was always told to always install windows first and then install linux due to the same problem. Windows has something that it over writes partions or something like that. |

Yeah I know. I can access everything on the partition with the live cd. I guess I just have to backup my data and do a clean install. The only important things on it was my music and random things I coded I guess. |

I would imagine if you rerun grub it will install itself as the loader again. Then edit the grub settings file to chainload windows on whatever partition it is on. _________________ ss news |

I did edit grub back to the way it was. I couldn't make it use update-grub from the live cd even with access to the partition. I just decided I might as well re-install it anyway. All I have to do is:
Install ndiswrapper things for wifi.
Allow the updates to run.
Install mediaplayerconnect (or w/e) to play media in the browsers.
Download and install java
Download and make/install flash.
Download my old packages that I like.
Re-add my backed up files
Install wine and continuum.
Then for windows I still need to run updates and get drivers from dell.com
I won't be using an antivirus because I probably will only be playing continuum or going to safe sites. (MGB, ss-halo.com, ect.) |

Well, my experience has been, you need to install Windows first (XP or earlier) because it needs to be on the first partition. Linux should easily install elsewhere without hassle (go figure?)... _________________ Performance is often the art of cheating carefully. - James Gosling |

I had that done at first but Windows screwed up so I deleted the partition. When I tried to install it again, it did that. Stupid hal.dll. See I sent my original cd away so I couldn't rescue. I had Windows XP Pro Corp around. The License Key works every time |
