Please don't listen to what 'Solid_Fire' said.
I hope by 'IP adress on Windows XP' you mean your LAN/local IP address.
From http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/cmtips/dhcp.html#lease
Quote: | Windows NT/2000/XP (by command line):
- Open a command window.
- Type the commands:
- ipconfig /release
- ipconfig /renew
- Type the command exit to close the command window.
Windows XP (through the GUI):
- Open the control panel Network Connections.
- Identify the icon for the interface connecting to the cable modem, right-click it, and select Repair.
- Close the Network Connections window.
[The Repair feature is also available as a button on the Support tab of the Status window for the connection].

You could also just select LAN IP address manually by configuring the TCP/IP protocol.
Otherwise, if you mean your Internet IP address, you might have to contact your ISP. |

I'm assuming you mean your actual wan IP like it says on whatismyip.com
Do this, go into your linksys router:
Go to MAC ADDRESS CLONE and Type in random letters and number(0-9, A-E), if your macid is on your modem use that. You can always reset this to 0s if something goes wrong. Now Remove the power cables from your modem and router. Plug in your MODEM, wait for the modem to connect to the isp, give it about 30 seconds, then plug in your router. Recheck whatismyip.com and see if it changed.
To do this try typing this in your browser:
http://192.168.1.1
or http://192.168.0.1
A user/password box should display, try not typing anything for user and making the password admin, if that fails try making the user admin and pass admin, and then user admin with no pass.
Good luck! Also be sure the router is set to dynamic. |
