Are you using the Continuum client (0.38 or 0.39pr1)? Also, does it freeze for every zone, or just one of them? What screen does it freeze on (take a screenshot [printscreen] and attach it to your post here). Have you tried deleting Continuum and re-installing it?
Packet loss is when your computer loses too much information from the server. The server is sending you information like where other players are and when they fire bullets. Imagine what would happen if you lost half of these packets (50% packetloss). Half the time when someone shoots you, you wouldn't take any damage because your computer would never get the information that they even fired! Now in the internet packets do occasionally get lost, so you can never elminate this entirely. Most zones set a cutoff, 5% or 10% packet loss, so that if you're over this cutoff you'll get spectated. If your packetloss is too high for a zone you don't have many options. You can get a more reliable connection to the internet, or try a zone with higher limits on packetloss. _________________ SubSpace Discretion: A Third Generation SubSpace Client

Run dxdiag (Start / run / dxdiag) and run a few tests inside that, see if you find problems there. _________________

I remember when I used to be the same way about this game. The smallest things in Subspace would excite me: A new base, someone with a banner who flew by or even discovering what flags were.
Anyway, I can't help you here. Sorry.

Sometimes on my old computer if I set my resesolution to a certain one, it would freeze too. Try setting your resolution to something else and test it. Have you tried entering in windowed mode?
If nothing else suggested on this topic helps, check your connection carefully then try updating your video drivers.
It sounds more like a connection issue to me though.

Have you tried waiting for a while?
and have you tried dxdiag yet? Because it really seems a directx problem which Continuum uses.

there could be something about the number of programs you're running. running firefox twice? just use ctrl-t and use tabs instead of opening a whole new browser.

An administartor account would be like the main users of the account with control of everything, if you have no restrictions, or you are the only one on that computer, you are probbaly logged into it as an admin.
Just check, Go to control panel and find users, see if you're an administrator.
Note: Are you trying to run it through a proxy by any chance?

I've only seen firewalls block the connections from continuum, in that case all the zones would be red. I don't think it's a firewall/anitivirus issue. I really don't know what it could be besides some kind of graphics issue.

have you tried running windows xp in safe mode then launching continuum.
typically if my anti-spyware/virus scanner interfes with continuum it will not launch the console, but the program and helper program will continually cycle in and out of being launched (you can view the program manager to determine this)
even so, i would uninstall both the anti-spyware and virus scanner just to make sure. also, use msconfig from the start->run command to remove any "extra" software that may be running in the background. also, starting on a fresh boot, use program manager (ctrl+alt+del) ->processess to see if you can destory any processes that are uneeded. if you try to destory a process that is critrical, windows might shutdown, so use the website if you are unfamiliar with the process name : http://www.processlibrary.com/
the whole point to this process is to see if another program is causing an error. if subspace works after all this, than you've found the problem. repeat the above one step at a time to find the program or programs causing the interference.
also, if subspace use to work before a certain point you can use microsoft's system restore utility to go back to a date were subspace did work. i've used this in the past when i've made some fairly stupid mistakes, and it actually worked really well.
(start -> programs -> accesories -> system tools -> system restore)
everything is laid out in calendar format so you should be able to see what is possible. keep in mind you will lose anything that was installed up to the point.
if none of this works you might possibly have a hardware failure?
nonetheless, if your hardcore and that addicated you could format and re-install, and use your computer as an subspace console. but your friends would laugh at you and call you funny names.
