Google now has a code searching engine setup for all of you that enjoy borrowing code from others. Even better, is that if you want to search ASSS's source code, you can just use Google now. Hell, you can even browse the tar file if you wanted to.
Pretty nice feature they added, so I'm going to use it too. If you go into the Search page of these forums, you'll notice a new section at the bottom. Should help when helping other people. You can select from the three main package types (source-only by default) for no real reason except that I'd like to include other source code that is popular around the Subspace world. Sadly, MervBot isn't searchable right now as rar files are not readable yet.
If anyone knows of any other good packages to throw in there, let me know. |

Neat tool, but the idea of helping the likes of quan, bd and tweedle dumb dont exactly sit well with me.
It sucks that such innovation will help the worthless take credit for other peoples work.

But you are also forgetting something else. Anytime they hand in a project at school or for some company, it will be much easier for others to see that the items they handed in were plagiarized. It's the same as English professors checking Google when someone hands in a report that is not like previous ones. |

I wasn't even thinking about the academic perspective of this (for either side). Was more refering to things like this.
It'll be interesting to see how this gets used, as we all know this will appear in atleast one article on slashdot. |

After a student and I got a major comp sci project back with a 0 marked on it here to find out a student took my code as his own and turned it in. When the student approached the professor and told him that he took my code and that I shouldn't get a 0, the professor just shook his head at the both of us and said it was plagerism and walked out the door. It wasn't my fault the kid took my code and turned it in as his own without giving me credit. I had given it to him after the due date since the professor had never accepted late homework upto that point, but this time the student had gotten the okay (I didn't know this until after the fact). The thing was the kid had turned in a previous copy on the actual due date that didn't work. Resubmitted parts of my code in the next day to make it work. So, thats what I think of comp sci professors and them checking "plagerism". Luckily when this all went down, my advisor at PSU sat on the plagerism hearing committe and he felt I had a strong case for appeal. The CSC professor failed to follow university guidelines on reporting a sanction of plagerism to the school so my advisor reminded him about the policy and probably re-explained the situation to the professor - in any case I got my grade restored. meh.
Its a very early morning so if the above doesn't make much sense - that's why. _________________ Performance is often the art of cheating carefully. - James Gosling |

Whenever I try to search for asss modules using phrases like: MM_LOAD MM_OK GetInterface
I only ever get 1 page of results.
Edit: After much searching, apart from asss143 and my own stuff this is the only ss related thing I could find:

Thats because those nine files are the only ones that contain all three of those strings. If you look for each individually, you'll notice that you'll get tons for the first two, but only 10 for GetInterface. |
