Requirements for zone hosting

No Stolen Graphics, Settings, or Maps can be used in the zone. We don't want to see another Extreme Games or another Trench Wars, instead give us the NEXT Extreme Games or Trench Wars.

No Oversized Staffs will be even considered for hosting. No we're not trying to tell you how to staff or run your zone, but we don't want to host a zone where every player is a staff member, and you have 10 different sysops we have to deal with.

Bots must be stable and not cause any issues to the server. If your bot is buggy and crashes a lot, then your going to be hosting it yourself. I think this is obvious, but just making sure it is stated.

Well, if you think your zone meets all the rules and standards, then contact me. You can do that three ways, email, (emulator_64) In game, (?message Emulator64) or on ssforum (reply)

This is nice and all, but it looks like you just copied and pasted a crapload of stuff from whatever Dell page you bought your system from. Which shows, you don't really understand your machine.

Second, DSL? I know it is nice to offer hosting to people, but DSL? You'll be able to support, what, 10 people comfortably? Thats assuming you have 50KB/s (not kbit) upload and the people connecting to you max out at 56k modems.

If you were offering a Linux machine for getting people something to remotely test ASSS on, thats one thing because lots of people do not have access to a Linux machine, and ASSS works differently on Windows and ASSS.

Now, as to what is important from someone looking to get a host:
  • Connection speed - DSL is bottom of the barrel
  • Access - Do they have to email/icq you to get files up? Do they have FTP access? Is there a webserver frontend to allow them to restart their zone if it crashes? Do they get access to VNC or Remote Desktop? You list nothing
  • History - People like knowing that they are not the first in line. You mention no history at all, with your post making you seem as if you've never even ran subgame with more than 3 people ever connected to it.
  • Availability - This goes along with history. How accessible are you? If a zone screws up overnight, what is your average schedule of availability? Could they page you or send an IM message forwarded to your phone?

Now that I'm looking at it, I would have used you as a host, but you know what, I just can't trust someone who doesn't use a serial mouse for their servers. Sorry...

What do you mean DSL is at the bottem of the barrel? My friend has his DSL upgraded with a banwidth of 1MB connection. Unlike cable, you have more of a choice of speed and plans. But your the expert, and I heard some where here cable is more stable, but I think it was purge and it was just out of his mind, but he could be right...

DSL is amazing for hosting games of Starcraft with your cable provider #1 friend, cable provider #2 friend, and dialup friend. Cable gets faster transfer speeds, but now at home I have "too much latency" to host a game.

Seems to me that there is no SSN up at all, so I am using it, if there are any problems I'll take it down, I have Intel P4 2.66 GHz 1 GB ram running FreeBSD 6.1 custom compiled ASSS on a 100mbit at ThePlanet peering to many different backbones, and msg me here if u want hosting, because I am bored

ya but SSN seems dead.

I need the site to judge if zone's are dead and then move them to a different group (instead of removing them).
