I find from personal experience AMD's seem to handle gaming a lot better than it's competitor Intel, i built my own PC with a 3400+ 64 Athlon XP and it's clocked at 2.2Ghz, no overclocking, though i hear it is easier to overclock than an Intel... It is most certainly faster than my brothers Intel P4 3.0Ghz and cost me £115 (GBP, not sure of $) from ebay, this was cheap at the time. Long live AMD.

Maybe i am being stereotypical but the people who buy Intel machines i would say are a victim of mass-marketing, Intel are very active on advertising here in the UK, AMD are not, at all, the only advertising AMD do is in the specs of pc's, your average consumer won't understand and so not read it, and in computer magazines, which your average consumer probably won't buy.

Joe Bloggs (Fictional) aged 45 see's intel P4 advertisments on his TV and logs in his mind Intel is the Nike of the computer world and so Joe goes to a PC store and see's two PC's, one an AMD and one an Intel P4, even though the AMD is probably the better machine for money, he buys the more expensive one and enjoys his 'Brand-name' PC.

I do appreciate however this is not always the case, some people just enjoy Intel, but the well-informed among us usually would opt for an AMD, the Sempron range are exceptionally good value for their potential.

If I were custom building a desktop I would go with a 64bit Athlon like my friend did, but there aren't as many options when you're getting a laptop.
