Me and a fellow server owner got into a debate. The question was "As far as zones go, should you A. Have a friendly and curtious bond between you and a zone you host? Or B. Have a Superiority and Respect bond (IE host-->zone owner-->player)?"

What do you guys think?

i went with the latter. but it was hard to chose. it should be like a teacher student relationship. You both can be friends but you still cant go to your teacher and slap her or call her a bitch (without reprecusions). You should be able to have a friendly relationship with your host but you shouldnt take advantage of their friendliness without expecting punishments!

Just because you have a friendly bond, does not mean that you cannot say "hey this isnt right, <slap>"

but stepping out of line will slowly destroy that bond and stop any future one. i will say that it is nice to be able to tell the other person what is up but you shouldnt be able to walk over your host.

agreed, you shouldnt be able to walk all over the host, but you should still maintain a friendly bond. Just because you say "hey, a file of yours is stolen,
take it down" doesnt mean that it will destroy your bond. If it does, then that zone owner isnt exactly a good zone owner, and should be kicked off the server immedietly!

Even if the zone owner did steal files, the host should give the zone owner a certain amount of time to get files that he/she created, or something that his/her dev. team created.

But yes, a friendly bond between the host and the zone owner is a big factor with hosting. It's like a job: If your boss (host) and you (zone owner) do not get along, you most likely won't get a raise, and possible will get fired.

If you are hosting for profit/business then keep business separate from personal relations (ie friendly bond).

Business is business, nothing personal just business.

I called my teacher a bitch once and he just laughed. sa_tongue.gif

I voted for the first one because it is the most important of the two, but I also believe that you should consider doing both of the choices since superiority is a beneficial factor.

Contempt+: Who said they don't get along? What Confess+ is talking about there is superiority.

My history teacher told me to suck his dick today when I asked for an extension on my essay due date. icon_sad.gif

But obviously the hosts are superior to the zone owners, but that doesn't mean that you can't be nice to them. Just don't put up with crap, I don't see why this merits 8 posts.

Hosts, Zone owners, Staff and Players should be friendly to one another and respectful. Its a two way street.

I voted for the first option. Power and being superior encourages hate and arguments, and even in extreme cases - Jealousy.

Have a friendly curtious bond, and things should go much more smoothly.

Personaly I think you should have both... a friendly relationship but still with superiorism for host so the ocasional anal zone owner will realize you wont be walked on.
