I was always leary of ASSS because last I knew it got laggy with lots of people, but if I'm reading the ping times below right, there isn't much difference between subgame and As3.

SSCC Omega Fire:
PING Current:60 ms Average:60 ms Low:30 ms High:190 ms S2C: 0.1% C2S: 0.0%

HZ ASSS Test Zone - 41 Players
PING Current:70 ms Average:65 ms Low:60 ms High:90 ms

ping: s2c: 0 (0-0) c2s: 45 (0-160) ploss: s2c: 1.86 c2s: 0.47

SSCX-A Hyper Space - 3 Players
PING Current:110 ms Average:100 ms Low:90 ms High:120 ms

ping: s2c: 9 (9-12) c2s: 55 (0-200) ploss: s2c: 0.25 c2s: 0.36

Anyway, back to the topic at hand, I think that there would definatly be much better zones if people had to use As3, or some other forum of *nix based server, mainly because it takes a bit more to get things going well, but it's not hard by any means. 99% of Internet Relay Chat is run off linux/BSD boxes, and pretty much similar to As3. I say switch everyone over to As3, it will get rid of the 15 yr olds who can't figure anything out unless its a GUI win32 program.

As if ping results only display the difference between the responding application, you can't test and judge them based on just ping results while other factors differ.

Subgame doesn't use a GUI either, just like ASSS, who cares if newbies and idiots are running game servers? It's a game, not something serious.

Same with subgame, go try. Just because you open it from the start, doesnt mean its to perfection.

You don't know what you are talking about. EG probably has one of the best dev teams in all of SSC. The entire powerbot team are a collection of the best programmers in Subspace, so setting up EG on ASSS would be unbelievebly easy. DSB also has staff that could manage the task.
ASSS is better that subgame, just deal with it and stop replying to this topic. You lose, have a nice day.

I don't know, I have yet to really care about ASSS. The first time I tried it out, all I can say, is thank God Dr. Brain was online to help me out. Until ASSS is simplified with a direct tutorial on how to accomplish tasks, 1.) how to setup staff accounts (didn't i have to ?passwd as well as setting my name in the config?) 2.) full description of what all default modules are / what they do (like billing vs billing_ssc)

Well I can't think of anymore off the top of my head. ASSS is "better" in some cases, and not in others.

In what other ways? So far the only big excuse I have seen is the problem of getting it set up. This game has seemed to be about doing what can be done with what we've got, first with bots and a closed-source server, and now I'm seeing a lot more that can be done and expanded upon with ASSS than with any other options atm. Just take a few minutes to learn it, read some of the wiki, and don't fear change.

Asss is a good idea, yes, and it has a lot of potential, and can really increase where we go, BUT, its hard and needs to be simplified. Once that is done, boom, it'll be a good program. (hopefully)

HZ had a sucessful ASSS test today. Stable and no lag comas with ~65 people at peak times and over 35 for most of the day

Modular - more control.
Modifyable - can add plugins.
*nix support?


SubGame:
Seemingly easy setup.
Win16+ required.

Maybe you lag?
ASSS isn't going to be dumbed down for you, so just deal with it. Grav summed it up, pick whichever you want, but keep in mind that subgame will slowly disappear over time. No one cares if you use ASSS or not, whatever you create probably won't get off the ground.

That was most likely because either 1. your ploss was very high because you had just downloaded the level. or 2. There were already too many people playing.

BlueGoku lowered the lag settings so you needed less than 4% ploss to play in the game.

That's great to hear. Anything else you can tell me? Bug reports? Feature requests?

I'd try the HZ forum, but I need to be "approved" before I can even read it. Not very welcoming for newcomers...
