How did EG and Hyperspace format their news with colours and such? Is there an editor (not SSNews13.zip) or what language syntax does it follow?

Just make a Rich-Text Format news in WordPad and save it as the news.txt instead of news.rtf.

No, create an RTF file, save it as a .rtf; then rename it to news.txt for the server to read it accordingly.
