(sigh) psyphi still doesnt get it does he? you CAN USE MERV ON ASSS, like...bring the bot INTO THE ZONE...i dont see how your plugins "wont work" in asss...lol

as3 and subgame are different. they handle things differently and have different responses to things. aliasing all the commands to their equal as3 variants the responses isn't enough.

Example 1, ?jackpot
Subgame: Current Jackpot: 0
As3: jackpot: 0

bots are coded to pharse subgame’s version. throw that plugin into as3 and boom! your jackpot display doesn’t work anymore along with anything that prizes based on jackpots etc.

Example 2, /*info

Now you just borked your 3 year old merv alias db along with all your zips. sure as3 has mysql db and much better blah blah blah. that's not the point, the point is as3 and merv doesn't mix. stay on the off-topic topic. ^_^

Example 3, *einfo

Subgame:
Invader-Zim: UserId: weeee-blip Res: 1920x1600 Client: Continuum 0.39 Proxy: Using custom proxy Idle: 0 s Timer drift: 0

As3: none. To get this info takes *info, and some of the info in einfo/info can’t be got currently. Same the other way around. I hope you're not collecting anything there in a plugin. BOOM.

Example 4, /*spec

Subgame:
Specs ticked player.

As3:
Tells who’s specing you.

That'll foobar your already borked zips, tourney plugs, duel plugs, football, bball, teamlocks, etc etc. anything that specs players.

*addmachine, *energy, *lag, *thor, *points, *listmod, the list goes on and on. It’s not enough to alias the commands, they need to respond the exact same too. Anyone that denies it is ignorant or is just arguing for the hell of it. If you are going to switch to as3 then it will take a lot of work either editing your plugs or as3 itself. Sure a merv can join as3 and even do simple functions but major plugins rely on more then the ss protocol to run. I’ve looked into moving a merv plug to an as3 server. I concluded it wasn’t worth it. You might as well just recode the plugin as a native mod.

Zim is where all my technical info about why my bots wouldn't work on as3 came from. Figured it best to have him spell it out for you guys. Whatever you guys think you know, zim knows 10 times more. Argueing with me when I have him as a reference is pretty pointless. I never claimed to know anything about as3 besides that my bots wouldn't work on it. Its logical that they wouldn't work on it, they were design'd for subgame not as3. If as3 was completely capable of having zones transfer without losing anything then more then half the zones would of converted already. I see no reason we went into such detail other then cyan having a personal issue with me. Chambahs, your way out of your league here might as well shut up before you, make, yourself, look, even, more, dumb.

Shall we square dance some more?

You can re-compile asss to reply like subgame to ?jackpot, that wouldn't be hard.

And if you're using alias.dll for your alias-tracking needs, that's quite your problem. I hope you've heard of BanG. icon_confused.gif

And about *spec, I'm sure you can command alias with switches. *spec = ?lock -s.

And psyphi, I have nothing personal against you. I have something personal against misinformation and bias.

yea, and everytime a new version of asss comes out you'll have to readd all those changes. sure you could not update and pray for no vitial exploitable bugs are found in it. for those that would like to keep up to date you'd need to keep some kinda cvs system because diff's would easly get messed up if the code changed to much around one of your updates or the line offsets where horribly messed. then you'd have to go in manually and fix whatever it broke, and gen up some new diffs for the new changes. that's no solution.

bang? i didn't know ssc was offering every asss zone billing that wants alias tracking. err wait, you meant 'any biller with built in alias' and not 'BanG'. what if the zone was running stand alone auth-file? hell, that isn't even the point! the point is that mervbot alias SHOULD work if 'merv works on asss.'

Sure maybe basic merv with nothing loaded will sit in an as3 zone but wtf good is that? if your bot does anything where it phrases command responces or uses unaliased or aliasable commands, that's a wrong statement.

why are you defending these obvious flaws in the argument? you can't just stick a loaded down merv in an as3 zone and think it'll be business as usual. any attempt would take lots of time and effort and never permanently solve the problem. (short of gremie syncing your as3 updates into the server itself)

you yourself said, "Did you even listen to me? MERV works on asss. That means you can connect MERVBot to an asss zone just like a subgame one. "

If you believe that it's so easy then attach a rar of a fully compliant, 100% compatible, version of as3 that I can put any merv in with any plugin loaded and will work as flawlessly as it did on subgame.

I'm not tryin to be a dick here, you're just (at best)misleading and (at worse)wrong.

I'll admit I didn't consider the fact that plugins like alias wouldn't work on asss. But my original statement was the "MERV works on asss", and it does.

And no, I'm not going to upload a version of asss just like subgame because 1) I don't have the time, and 2) that kinda destroys the point.

The point overall is not that asss is a clone of subgame. I know it's not. Psyphi's original point was actually that he didn't see that asss could do more then subgame. I think we all agree that asss can definitely do more.

The benefits of converting your zone to asss with a little bit of work making it compatible far outweigh the difficulties. The large amount of work involved in making modules for all of your automation needs is also quite worth it. Asss is nearly infinitely extensible; the combination of subgame and MERV isn't.

Oh, and if I can believe the "SSCI", you guys definitely have SSC biller access.

It's also a problem since ASSS isn't a finished product. They might have to keep upgrading the ASSS servers just to stay in tact with what's being planned ahead. Also, it can deteriorate their population. They should probably aim for ASSS once a big zone like T3 or EG converts (seeing that they already have test zones up).

I didn't say that I it couldn't do more then subgame. Just that no one has shown me anything worth losing my plugins. I said, "I have to weigh both the good with the bad". You keep trying to twist my words, people do that when there running out of facts to try and degrade you with. I've known merv work'd on as3 for a very long time. Catid and I have known eachother for over 3 years now, so we speak from time to time about his bot. I've even been lucky enough for him to make a few dll's for me. Whatever that comment was about me having SSC doesn't make since. If anyones in the wrong and making SSC look bad on this forum, its you! Is your zone even as3? Who made you the as3 spokesperson. If you wouldn't of been poppin' off at the mouth on shit that don't concern you we would never of been in this. Now you go on and try and twist these words up, since you aint got shit else on your side. Real recognize real, and fake recognize fake. All you people out there trying to hate, will never be recognized by anyone real.

I don't run a zone anymore. When I did, it was subgame because asss did not run on Windows. This concerns me because I support asss and I don't support the "asss won't help me" attitude because it's just not true. Subgame has never been up to par for a pushing-the-envelope usergroup like us.

Never said it couldn't do more, just haven't been shown anything that cannot be done on subgame. You’re doing everything I knew you would. I'll repeat again, people try and twist someone’s words when they run out of facts to degrade someone with. Your trying to not only twist my words but your own. Everyone take not how he paraphrased what he said and quoted pieces of mine. Yeah, I know you've recently fixed some minor bug in merv and have previously helped debug snruub and catid with other things. So does catid, that’s what makes it more of an insult. You help catid out and he still wouldn't say he knew you when I asked. I know about your plugins and I have yet to see a single useful one. If I ever did decide to make plugins, I would definitely make something more useful then an 8ball. You are a good programmer, but your skills are going to waste because you have no creativity. Since you know so much about as3 and merv, why is it that you haven’t made anything of use? Instead of just debugging other peoples shit which is the only thing useful I’ve seen you do. Now quote me some more, because you don’t have shit else to hit me with.

I don't know how you'd know of the plugins I've made since none of them are publicly available. I have not made an 8ball plugin, that was Cypher. I have made an capital ship plugin, an LVZ scoreboard plugin for one of the zones I hosted, and a doormode plugin for someone else. I have also modded many, many plugins for my clients' zones.

I'm a moderate programmer, and I spend my skills primarily on venues other than SS. If you like AOK, check out AOKTS.

newb is right, you've been owned, there's no way catid would deny knowing me. So let's just shut up and accept the fact that you're wrong. Now I have nothing against "zimmm", so I'll be perfectly happy if he comes to reply and argue facts with me.

I don't think they try to boost their pop at all. Each bot there serves its purpose, and it just so happens that they need more than 1 bot to do it.
