how do I run the server
how do I change the map
how do I change the settings
My custom module's command isn't working, why not?
how do I change my zone's name/description?
how do I make a MYSQL database for ASSS to store my users in
how do I access this database
why isn't my subgame .cfg file working with ASSS?
what map editor should I use to create extended LVL files with my name(as the map author) and useful region information inside the map file?
how do I make a module?
how do I make the server use my module?
when I put my module in modules.conf ASSS closes right as it loads, why?
how do I make windows restart my ASSS server like the linux script does for linux versions?
you should do a "wiki" type thing where anyone can submit useful information to a questions, so that if someone's question isn't answered in the FAQ they can add an answer that will hopefully help someone else |

As I mentioned before, if someone wants to setup one, contact me and I can help out installing it or just offer the hosting. |

If I only have FTP Acess to my host, can it still be installed? Is it just like a series of scripts and whatnot? If its work, then Ill just write a brief perl script to take care of that.
Untill then, post Question AND ANSWER things, cest vouz pleat. |

If you only have FTP access, I'd seriously recommend you talking to your host about running processes in the background. Almost every webhost does not want unknown programs being ran, and in most cases, if found, will void your service with them. |

I've never installed a Wiki, but I'd guess most are like most forum installations - upload, chmod a little, specify a database and go. |

The whole point is I need someone to admin it though. I rarely have the time to setup, design, and admin a Wiki. |

As am I, obviously. Mine, if you didnt notice, my host is 1stStrike, I only have FTP acvess because thats all Ive ever needed. He has a remote something or other but has never ever used it, and hes off in basic training and classes so I wont be able to get ahold of him till April at the earlests. What exactly needs to be installed? Isnt there just a perl script to make data files or write to a mysql table and have a php page parse them to make a page? |

Most Wikis require a SQL database to be setup for them. Beyond that, its just uploading, setting up the configuration file, and CHMODing what needs it.
If you find a Wiki or something you like, send me an email and I can easily setup an account here in which you'll have plenty of bandwidth and such. |

Can you get a wiki where people can comment at the bottom of the page similar to the quick reply box? Or does that kind of break the whole concept of a wiki? |

I just wanted to use something like Dustpuppy's SSQDB (quotes.ssforum.net) only add a Table Of Contents. That in my opinion would be the best system, it would have a question review ability, rating, and editabliity.
I have no idea where to start to find software like this, cnet and download.com are usually for users and client side stuff, google just gives me a bunch of wiki websites. Anyone help me out here? |

I really like Wikipedia's MediaWiki. But maybe just because it's the only one I've seriously used? _________________ This help is informational only. I should also mention:
I'm in the market for a bug/request tracking system. My todo list is doing alright so far, but it would be nice to have a web-based thing that people could submit bugs and feature requests to, and have their status tracked, with comments, etc. I used to have cvstrac set up, but it got annoying, so I took it down.
If someone knows of a bug system that's completely web-based (no email), simple and easy to use (i.e., bugzilla is out), and easy to set up, let me know.
I'm mentioning this here because there's some chance it could be integrated with the wiki/faq, which would be pretty cool. |

I kinda made a simple Bug tracker:
http://cypherjf.sscentral.com/bugger/
if you wanna check it out; let me know if you'd wanna use it, it has all the end-user options implemented 'cept for the search feature. Other than that, there are minor admining options.... oh and i don't have it split up on "pages" as it reaches a certain # of posts.. :/ but shouldn't be that hard to implement either...
SSC is having issues atm (at least for me), and am not able to be logged in.. i'm wondering if they modified a php.ini figure... i'll look into it.. but it appears to work OK locally on my machine. [ i don't have another host to try it out on ]
it uses MySQL backbone just like the wiki probably will, which could prob be hooked up to use the wiki user's table, etc.
I'll probably still continue coding this since i have a week or so left of break... just let me know...
edit: it appears the login / session is working now. if you guys try it out and experience issues with it let me know... there is an account demo:demo already created. _________________ Performance is often the art of cheating carefully. - James Gosling

I still say that a variant of a quote database ought work fine. Dustpuppy did create his own so could we get him to create a system for us? Or simply just expand cypher's system for use for both. |

Cyphers looks very effective. It has a clear listing by topic, fairly expansive reporting ability (eg, lots-o-options) and can handle more than one piece of software at a time, so you can have a main application section, a module section, a protocol section, etc. It looks like it can also be used for the FAQ fluidly, which I may recommend be kept in an entirely separate area, keep the development and bug tracking stuff separate from the kiddies with
asss.sscentral.com is already in use, but its just an archive place with nothing but smong's stuff there. I can try to talk to Swift to use it for this, and if needed just put Smong's stuff on my site. I think that asss.sscentral.com/faq and /bug will be easier than explody.ssihosting.com/asss/faq and cypherjf.sscentral.com/bugger.
Ill help admin it and keep it neat and tidy as well as anyone else who wants to. |

I'm willing to let you guys have the src code, and am willing to set it up for ya on a host, just give me the ftp access, etc. etc. It'd also be good so then if any changes need to be made, it'd be easier for me to grab / set them.
But it's up to whoever is hosting.. just let me know. |

Some of the them are probably even out dated versions from my toktok website. So I don't mind if my folder at asss.sscentral.com gets removed. |

Perhaps you can add another category "Problem", which would be used for FAQs as well.. |
