  • Stop all processes which you know of they shouldn't be there, I know you wouldn't have any idea which those are, so guess this doesn't help;
  • Don't only use Ad-Aware, use Spybot search & destroy too, make sure their reference files are updated before scanning;
  • Some of these add / spyware things have uninstallers, uninstall the software you know of it's spy or adware;
  • I wouldn't do this without some experienced user's help (the registry is not something to mess with!), use these programs;
  • Increase your browser's security, don't let websites execute scripts without your permission;
  • Change your homepage to something normal, every time you load the page it might try to execute some nasty scripts which just installs the software you're trying to remove again;

I would have to control your system again to provide better help, but I don't have better tips than those, for now.

I tried SpyBot, but it locks up trying to remove cookies. I have latest version and updated references.

At the IE browser menu: Tools -> Internet Options -> Security -> Internet (zone) & Custom Level.
It's a good tool which can save you a lot of unneeded grief and AV/T/S software running time.

I have no idea why so many people get so much ad / spyware, I use IE (don't you even dare to flame me, I use a content-filtering proxy in front of it now sa_tongue.gif) and never had any trouble with it.
When a security notice pops up with "YOU NEED TO DOWNLOAD THIS PROGRAM TO BE ABLE TO VIEW THIS PAGE", I click [NO] of course, but unforunately there are so many idiots who believe it and click the Yes button.

I mean you can just stay spy/adware-free if you just think about what you're doing and just don't allow websites to do everything they want to do.

Ah yes, cookie settings as well.
Prompt 1st hand cookies, auto-block all 3rd party ones.

In almost all matters, IE is well properieted to protect a keen and intillegent user from all harms in the way of surfing, were one only to make use of said protections.

Actually, IE with SP2 is pretty good. It forces you to work to install ActiveX components, instead of poping up with a window.
