hm, i was just thinking.. if I made the bomb life last like a very long time, and I fire a thor across the zone, will the thor get lost if no one is in that sector... like lets say I fired it from j12, and waited in its path a few sectors away, would it appear after some type of time? o.O or would it be dropped? _________________ Performance is often the art of cheating carefully. - James Gosling |

Thors, under normal subgame usage, are sent to a larger range of users than normal weapons. As to how large, I never checked. It might be the whole map. But yes, you do get thors and mines (for the whole map) in a larger range than normal weapons.
As for getting "lost", no, the client keeps record of it all, even if its really far away. Any new users who just entered a game won't see old weapons (a trick I used a long time ago to clear mines in bases). |

Thors, decoys, mines, and bricks are sent globally (at last check which was several subgame versions ago, could be diff now I suppose).
Another sync problem is with mines and reps/players. If someone mines on the other side of the map, you get the pkts and your client places the mines. If however, while you're still on the other side of the map, someone runs over or repels those mines, your client doesn't get the rep or position info that indicates the mines went off. Therefore if you end up flying over there, you might see a guy plow 8 mines that he had repelled earlier. This is a minor problem in powerball.
Note that if you fired a bomb from A1 to T20 and warped to T20, you would eventually see the bomb (assuming there are no tiles in its way), because your client knows about the original event. Once your client knows about a weapon that has been fired it gets stored in memory, and it can't get "dropped."

well ive noticed even in TW, if someone hits a mine on their screen but not on yours due to w/e reason, lag or whatnot, the mine still appears on my screen but not theirs, which is a bummer because the client still thinks you have maxed out your mine's when someone actually had hit one...
Anyone remember this case happenin in the old SS clients/subgame? |
