Trying to setup my own server and Directory Listings for a campus LAN of Subspace. Obviously, I'm new to this stuff, and until I read over the LAN instructions in this forum, I had a really difficult time (my ports were not the same).

My question is, if I have subbill.exe and subgame2.exe/nb running, what am I missing that would not keep a player database on? Isn't subbill the player database? ...and, everyone seems to be using Catid's subbill server, is that becoming the defacto standard now?

Yes, the biller is exactly what you need. Make sure the biller and subgame connect, thats the only thing I can see b0rking it. Catids biler is in frequent use, but not necessarily the standard.

Inquisitive Idiot responding (well, it's not a stupid question, right? tongue.gif)

How am I to tell whether or not the billing server is connected to subgame.exe? It slows down considerably in the millisecond counts when subgame is executed, but I would assume maybe I should be looking for something like the letter A: after the letter Q: 0 ####?

(Like a question and answer session?)

I will use the inichecker tool shortly, but I don't initially see anything wrong with my ini files.

Thanks for the quick response and help, ET.

It will tell you the biller has connected or not, if you look at subgame2; it will say "attempting to connect to biller..." x4 then say "Server running without database" or something along those lines; if that is the case, it didn't connect to the biller.

If it did connect to the biller, it wouldn't say the player database is offline. icon_smile.gif

I think I accidentally figured it out.

I opened up subgame.exe through Windows' Explorer rather than through the command prompt and therefore didn't use any flags (ie: /nb), I have a feeling that nb stands for no-billing. If you use the nb flags, the server stops prior to displaying the following lines:

Sun Feb 15 19:47:28: Attempting to establish link to billing server...
Sun Feb 15 19:47:29: Billing server connected.

Obviously the timestamp is irrevalent, but the flags however are not.
...now, the only thing I have to figure out from this step is why the users are not actually being logged into user.dat files... Should I make a new thread topic for this? I can never seem to find anything when I search the forums.

Yeah, as I said I figured that one out already. Thank you both for your help though, I really appreciate it! I also figured out the problem with my *.dat files not getting updated and saved by searching the forum.

Thanks again!

Apparently no one reads the full tutorial on Shanky's Server for Subspace OS. icon_smile.gif
