About switching to ASSS.

Don't do it unless you meet these three requirements:
1.) You need it. This one is very important. Don't move if you want 1 feature it can offer.
2.) You can code. This is a must. You wont find anyone who will do it for you.
3.) Slightly insane. Self explanatory. Usually fufilled by #2.
4.) You have no population to speak of. I made the mistake of not knowing this, and switched while I had a regular population. Only now, 8 months later do I have a population close to what I lost.

If you meet those, you can *think* about moving to ASSS.

Look, we're trying to get things started up using bots, then trying to use asss for better gameplay. So, I'm just asking for bots, then we'll try asss if we need it.

In short, bot programmers don't tie themselves down, they're freelancers. So post what you want, and someone will do it for you.

Or, how about you just post the text file up here? Bot programmers don't come to zone owners, zone owners have to come to bot guys.

Posting bot/asss needs: Flags & powerball

There is one powerball in the arena. This represents a shipwrecked crew. Returning the crew to their planet will give you a reward. At the planet there will be a goal.

Also, you can gain points by transporting flags from the lower right station to the upper right refinery. This would need to be controlled by a bot/asss setting who gives flags in the lower right and takes it away in the upper left. When its taken away it gives the player points. The bigger the ship, the more points.

Upgrading

Each player has a ship with a certain amount of upgrades and basic stats. The server needs to save the shipstatus at each death and prize a player back to that status upon respawn. The only thing he does not take with him to his next life are specials. A player takes all upgrades he got by greens, buying or prizing with him for the entire round till the reset.

A player needs to ?buy another ship. Ship 1 is the starter ship, ship 8 is a awesome battle cruiser that will take many hours of playing to get. But a fully upgraded Warbird is still superior to a not-upgraded javelin or spider. A player takes his upgrades with him when he buys a new ship. (note: this is balanced by the fact that a spider needs alot (about icon_cool.gif of upgrades before he gets his full stats. A wb will suffice with 1 or 2)

Buying can only be done at safe zones, and each safe zone only has certain things for sale. You need to travel around to get diverse things.

Frequencies

All warbird players are placed on a newbie frequency so they can help eachother and compensate their relative weakness by numbers. However, what at the beginning of the round when there only are wb players? To overcome this problem we do this: When the number of wb players drops under 40% we change to only 1 freq. When the number reaches over 60% we change to 2 freqs. A little example to illuminate this:
Say 4/10 players are wb, we got 1 freq, it then rises to 5/10 and still we got 1 freq, but when it reaches 6/10 we switch to 2 freq. If it then drops to 5/10 we keep 2 freqs, but when it reaches 4/10, we switch to 1 again. This is to avoid alot of switching. Players are switched after death or when entering, no player is warped or so. Non-warbird players are not allowed on these freqs.

All other players have their own freq, they fly solo unless they decide to band together.

Squads also have private frequencies. When a squad member enters his ship he is placed onto his squads frequency automatically. These frequencies are owned by the squadowner. A player can from there move to another private or public freq if he desires. Non-squad members are only allowed on invitation of the squad(owner).

Any player can start a private frequency, the first one to get on it owns it.

Squads

We want a couple of facilities for a squad:

Players can donate points to a squad, and squad upgrades last over the round – so once purchased the squad will have it for all eternity (or until the dissolve).

A squad can thus purchase a base with a landing pad, and they can make things available to buy there. To do that they must pay the prize of the object times 50. The squad will receive 10% of any item bought there. A squad cannot make ships available for buy. Also the squadowner can give the squad points to individual players or other squads if he does so desire.

The base will be placed on the map at the next server reset/round. Squad points cannot be used by members to buy individual upgrades. The squad points get transferred over the server reset, so they are available next round.

A squad can declare war on another squad. But they can only have 1 war declared at any time. The number of wars that can be declared upon a squad however is limitless. Kill points are doubled for wars that are at war with each other. Also the kill points are added to a jackpot that the winning squad gets added to their squad points. They cannot buy at each others bases.

A war is won when one side surrenders or after 1 week (but it can be re-declared immediately). The winner is the side who accumulated the most kill points. The winning squad gets the JP in squad points.

If a squad surrenders the jackpot goes to the opposing squad.

A squad can also make a alliance. If you kill a allied pilot you do not get kill points, instead they are deducted from your points. ( note: no limit of the number of alliances, to much alliances will limit one’s opportunity to get points from kills to much.)

Server police

When someone is on a killing streak he gets a bounty placed on his head. The bigger the killing the killing streak, the more the bounty.

Mods are encouraged to improve gameplay by flying around in fully upgraded server police ships. These would be any ship they choose with full upgrades. For example hunt down people who raid the trade lane, or hunt down people who do the trade lane if its not raided enough. These ships can be accessed by a mod command.

we need more zones that havent bee done before.. which is why ive slowed down work on my zone, cuz its flagging.. same old flagging EG style, with diff map and setts and less players..

The reason i play Hyperspace is cuz its never been done before and its actually fun.. flagging, yes, but its also more fun to flag in there because certain ships are better then others depending on how much money/skill the person has.. and the balling is awesome.. the ASSS modules.. etc.

Hyperspace being fun is a topic open for debate, but I'll grant you that it has not been done before.

It has many gameplay issues that I don't have time to resolve as quickly as I would like. Slow progress is being made.

To get back on topic, I think that a bot is the only thing that will work. Unless you (Remu$) are willing to program your own ASSS modules, you'll never get them done. There simply aren't enough ASSS capable programmers. Which basicly leaves MERV. TWCore is actually a better platform for a RPG style bot than MERV, but again, you'll have to program it yourself.

TWCore is 1337, I do most of my stuff on that now. But for buying, 50% made a TM Mer edit that saves prizes like that.

no, I think he meant asss can do everything a bot can and more, so you don't need bots if you have someone who can handle ASSS.

Look, The programmer only does asss, Plus Not every server is able to host asss, we should first see if we can actually get a asss server, Asss is only ran on linux, Not to many servers are on linux.

SSN is not hosting ASSS zones, nor do we have a desire to do so anytime in the near future. Furthermore, as of right now, SSN's billing server doesn't talk to ASSS zones. That may be added down the road. Maybe.
CypherJF - Thu Sep 09, 2004 8:27 pm

Actually, L. Chance:

Maucaub said over here that the Mnemosyne biller does support ASSS.

But I'm sure this doesn't change SSN's current stance on ASSS hosting; as you can read more about the debate over here was sparked by this.
L. Chance - Thu Sep 09, 2004 9:28 pm

Bah! You'll have to ask him. I was merely going by what he has said over at the SSN forums. *shrugs*

The point still remains. SSN does not desire to host ASSS zones.

Uhhhhhh...
Everyone was able to run it on Windows right after it was released, they just had to compile it for Windows, some people like catid and a bunch of others did this and released it.
Now the Windows binaries are included with the Linux distribution.

I'd say no, this thread isn't about problems with bots.
He's asking for some programmer, therefore it belongs in Trash Talk or Zone Junk.
If he would ask for some coding help for a bot plugin or something I'd say it should be moved.

Remu$, do you mind giving the name of your "I only do ASSs" programmer?
Sorry, couldn't resist. :-p Yeah yeah, I know, "microprinted", whoever talks about this microprint will be killed by my toothbrush, and I'm not going to tell you how.
