What are the linux user stereotypes?
Cyan~Fire - Sat Sep 23, 2006 11:27 am
Post subject:
They're pale, have high-pitched and nasal voices, and are generally interested only in computing. They also do not have girlfriends.
BDwinsAlt - Sat Sep 23, 2006 11:57 am

Umm I don't have a high-pitched voice. :S

Note: MGB please let me use emotions. Why can't I use them anyways?

BDwins, You shouldn't consider yourself a Linux user though, more like a "newbie pretending to be cool with linux".

I think you just partially gave the definition of a 'nerd', Cyan. icon_smile.gif

Of course. He is the only one I take orders from. He brought me into halo, so I do what he wants. I'm not trying to be a suck up or anything. It's simple loyalty.

Watching you two fight can easily be summed up in this picture. I'm pretty sure it is obvious who is represented as what.

They do all their coding in C, because it's the only manly language. (Unless they're female or want to be female, in which case they use Haskell.)
When they're not using C, it's Perl or shell scripts, because those languages are alien enough not to seem manly or womanly.
Real linux users use Emacs.
They'll install PHP, but only for the "aww, isn't it cute" factor of using it from the command line.
They read man pages to their children at bedtime.
Real linux users use only Emacs, and everything they do, from mail to unzipping, is in an Emacs window. If they use a GUI, they only use it to run Emacs and Firefox. And Matlab.
I'm sorry, I meant Octave.
Since they do things they way they want, instead of using Ctrl+D to end their interactive Python sessions, they use Ctrl+Z, ps, and then kill -9 the thing.
The average linux user spends 2-3 months adding scripts and adjusting startup files and config files so everything works just nicely, before doing any real work.
Real linux users use Vim.
They all listen to bad techno at levels that damage their eardrums and have dozens of cans of soda on their desk.
They have blackout shades installed on their windows so that they can enjoy a nighttime coding session at any time of the day.
Once they get a job and start valuing their free time, they switch to Mac OS X.

^ LOL

Linux users aren't emo, they don't use AOL, and they're not attractive girls, although that emo video was pretty funny (stop picking on emo kids! they got it bad enough).

NH plates don't look like that though, and I don't think any other state has the LIVE FREE OR DIE on them. Not a legal plate, perhaps?

I'm pretty sure official plates don't have trademark notices, and usually come with tax stickers of some kind.
