Trash Talk - Subspace Gone Within 10 Years? kooskooskoos - Sun Dec 11, 2005 7:46 pm Post subject: Subspace Gone Within 10 Years?
Do you think Subspace will be gone within 10 years? I think so because the world is evolving and Subspace is getting kind of old.

Mabye not gone. Mabye someone will come up with ideas to morph Subspace into something more complex, and up to date.
Purge - Sun Dec 11, 2005 7:59 pm Post subject:
Screw up-to-date. Continuum will be known for its old school styled gameplay, which is fun and addictive. LearJett+ - Sun Dec 11, 2005 8:28 pm Post subject:
It's already in the action of dying. New zones aren't getting population, old zones are losing population. Some people don't even know about non-SSC zones...
It's sad, really.

if by created in the year 2001 = new zone then yes MK is a new zone. it is certainly newer than the zones that have been here since the beginning but it isnt that new. 4 years old

We might have an ace up our sleeves, we'll see.
You are right, though, it requires updating.
However, there is no need to sacrifice the current gameplay style in order to update it; Newer engine, better client/server, same zones.
It's just blank software, what you fill it with is what counts.

i reckon keep the game playing style the same but a new clint that uses new more real life like graphics (like the explosilons and bombs etc..)wouldent realy do anthing more than atract more players as long as the other clints can be used is so if your computer can't handle it or you dont like the graphics or somthing about you can still play subspace, another thing is that you cant find about subspace on the internet if your sching for new games to play, i only started playing a few monuths ago when i got bord of the other games i had and only one of the game sites i loocked at for new games contumium was on, a bit more publisty of subspace would help bring in new players kile my selth.

Halo has been around since 2003/4 ouside of SSC, and about a year (little under) on SSC.
The basic problem I see is that the zones out side of SSC don't get any pop, and if they do it is probably with 20 bots or summit. The non-ssc zones are really just a rip off of some other zone players loved (not all true).
However as time passes NetOPs and all pass down and leave, with a new group of people rising THE Lucifer - Mon Dec 12, 2005 10:14 am Post subject:
A new engine would require a mandatory new client.
There is no use for making a new engine if we're just going to recreate the exact same game, it's a waste of time.
And you can't have an old client conform to the new engine/server software, they're incompatible.
The idea is to make an engine capable of both emulating the current game style and zones while allowing developers to go beyond if they so wish it, without the need of running ASSS (which is rather unstable) and working off their mind for modules for it (which would append even more instability to it).
This will eliminate the need for subgame/continuum, as well as any other software (at least for windows based platforms, not certain if it's portable).
A new engine would definitely sport 3D gfx, along many other features and issues.

I know of no less than 10 people working on 'new clients'.
So far approx. 0 have finished.

Agurus, the new net-ops coming to SSC won't be for a long time. And when they do come, they will probably be brainless dumbasses.
(Not like some of the netops aren't right now)

Who are the netOPs anyway?

Try looking for yourself.

Why do you dislike me so much? I was just making jokes on the festivities coming up :)

If they were jokes, why didn't we find it funny?
(Yes, a guy actually died because he couldn't stop laughing at his own jokes)

I really think that Continuum/SS is getting less and less popular principally because it isn't multiplatform. Another reason maybe is because it isn't open source either(in other words : not really actively developped). If it was open source, the game would be actively developped by the community,

SOS is making a new client. And it actually seems promising this time.
Purge - Thu Dec 22, 2005 3:35 pm Post subject:
Not just a client, a game. But I doubt he'll actually remain persistent to building the game (as many others have tried).

So. Why Don't we make Sequals to Old Zones Improving them?

Because only you want to do that?

Maybe because the zone owners like their zone how it is?
Deal with what you have man, and be greatful that "Continuum" ever existed, and the people that made the zones existed.
